Flood & Drain, Rockwool Sitting In Water

All of my experience has been with soil growing, but I'm venturing into Hydro. I've never looked into bell siphons. I bought a plastic tray from Wal-Mart and drilled holes in it and all seems well :). And I don't really consider a year to be 'ages' :P.

Flood & Drain, Rockwool Sitting In Water

In my flood and drain I use 4" rockwool cubes and a Lowe's concrete mixing tub. I have it elevated towards the drain hole, which sites about a quarter inch above the bottom of the concrete mixing tub, therefore any water that gets pumped in will drain out except the 1/4" that can't reach the...

    Starting Under 600w MH Safely?

I have a cool tube and it doesn't get hot at all really, I just didn't want to fry them up with too much light or something, because I've heard they're too strong for seedlings.

    Starting Under 600w MH Safely?

At what distance should I start it out under my 600w MH from seed? Should I dim it to 50% or would that make them stretch? I'm doing hydroponics and they're in 1" rockwool cubes right now.

Clamping 1/2" Hose To Water Pump?

I don't want to do silicone really, and I don't live near a hydro store. I had it in my reservoir for 5 days and the bolt started rusting a little, will it hurt my plants at all?

Clamping 1/2" Hose To Water Pump?

I bought some 1/2" stainless steel hose clamps to keep the connection secure, but I wasn't thinking about them rusting :\ I've tried zip ties, but they're not strong enough since my tubing is so thick. Are there any other solutions here? I've looked online and found a single brass clamp for $10...

    Blocking Air Manifold Holes?

I could of sworn that I read somewhere that having the air pushed back into the air pump isn't good for it, but maybe I'm trippin'...

    Water Pump Swimming In Resevoir?

My water pump doesn't want to stay stuck to the bottom of my res, it falls over and floats around and all. I was wondering if I could add some aquarium silicone to the bottoms of the sticky pads to keep it in spot, or if there was a better solution. Thanks :)

    Blocking Air Manifold Holes?

I just purchased a 35w commercial air pump, and it came with a 6-way manifold to split the air distribution into 6 lines. I only need to currently use 4 of the holes since I only have 4 air stones, so can I block off the other 2 (using a 5" piece of tubing burnt and crimped at the end). Would...

    Shaking Grain Jars

I'd never beat any of my shoes with a grain jar, I would much rather invest a couple bucks in a pneumatic or bicycle tire lol :P

Grow Room Floorplans. Here to help.

The best way to use your ducting is to heat your house, so it spreads the heat out instead of concentrating it. If you don't want to spread it, at least vent it through something that normally produces heat (chimney, dryer ducting). You should watch Barry Cooper's Never Get Busted Vol. 1 & 2...

    Shaking Grain Jars

Everyone knows the easiest way to shake a grain jar is to hit it on something that won't break it, such as a roll of duct tape or a bicycle tire. I never invested in a bicycle tire and used to have a full size truck tire in my room to beat them on, so I figured this might help someone out there...

Grow Room Floorplans. Here to help.

Ducting into a chimney is a great idea :) I've heard of ducting through dryer vents, but a chimney sounds simpler :P
