    The myth of Rockwool

I've used rockwool from day 1. Many years back. Germinate seeds in paper - so I can see they are viable. Transfer to small rockwool cube. lightly water so it is "half" soaked. Don't water again until it is nearly the weight of a dry cube. Nearly! Once the seedling is showing I just dab the cube...

2 rooms, same everything (almost) - one happier than the other

Yeah - I just assumed PH imbalance would be more subtle. I'll keep on top of it and see how things go.

well, I'm fairly happy with light distances, and I've used the 400w bulb in the other room with great success, so I'm saying... ph

    Seeds in hydro

It is true of rockwool. Easy to saturate, but you get a feel for the weight after a short while. I paper towel germinate. Transfer to small rockwool cubes with tweezers as soon as the root shows. Putting the "tail" horizontal. Lightly watered. Put cubes in propogator, heated ( to encourage root...

Hmmm. So last night I took the PH down from 6.5 to 5.8 (and tonight I've brought it down to about 5.5 but that's after the below photo/gif). I also changed my 400W MH bulb (new) to a 600W MH bulb. I also lifted the lamp by - well - you can see. 6 inches or so. Bit of a transformation!

:-) The garage is behind only on timing, not because of poor performance. The indoor room was fired up at least 2 weeks before the garage one.

No Myke. Never found a reason for them with NFT, and they skew the PH, I'm told. I have one, but don't use it. I ran it when my last crop in the garage had problems and it made no difference.

Opposite. my 42 (it's 45 actually) is more PH stable. I've always grown in GT424 tanks (45 litre). The garage now uses a GT100 - 100l tank - that is the less PH stable one!

PH at 5.3 now, after two small adjustments this evening (2lm, then 1.5ml). Target = 5.5 with rockwool

Yeah - the garage grow, for some reason, has less stable PH, which is a suprise as the reservoir is twice the size. I expected more stable PH. I put 4ml of PH down in the other day when it climbed to 6.8. That would normally bring it down to around 5.5 to 6 (I do it in controllable steps) but...

Hmm. Interesting. Maybe using my petrol car frequently adds Co2 to the garage in summer. Still, I'm drawign in what is effectively outside air, and plants manage outside...

It's a big garage mate - a double garage. with a 4x4 tent in it. My indoor tent is the same , in a room barely 4 times the size of the tent. The 5" fan blows outside, and is fed by a 4" fan (garage) . Worked wonderfully for 3 grows before. These are RKV fans - blow your wig off on full! Why...

2 rooms, same everything (almost) - one happier than the other

Outbuilding is a garage. Nothing has changed in it. 4" input fan, 5" outlet, running on hybrid controller. Indoor same (though passive input). Very well ventilated building (and large). I have a very rarely used car in it (had bumper crops in summer when car used daily). Outbuilding has...

2 rooms, same everything (almost) - one happier than the other

My primary room in an outbuilding. Had an aweful last crop for reasons that I put down to cold. Fairly sure of this. Only other change was switch from a GT424 tank to a GT100 tank. Rectangular 42 litres to square 100 litres. Now heating it, and running a near identical room indoors. Both rooms...

    Spider mites - What now?

Can't you get predators any more ? 20 odd years ago I had mites and I bought predators from Holland. A pot of sawdust that contained predator eggs / larvae . Invisible to the naked eye. I hung lots of yoghourt pots on branches , poured in a small amount of the sawdust into each, and within a day...

Taking clones from flower towards harvest

Harvest, leave some branches with nodes, switch to 18/6 light, and wait. Next few nodes will probably have odd leaves. Singles, curly ones etc. Then it will eventually grow normal leaves. It's the hormone switch . Does odd thing it's to new growth at first.

    Is she “in flower” ???

Looks great. As you've discovered, even the biggest breaks heal.

    Low Yield. Why?!

Wow, this got angry fast :-) I think it's fair to say, in summary. 1) OP - is your light defo drawing 600w at the wall? Answer = yes - then your plants don't like the cold (this 100% happens with some strains), and/or your light isn't giving enough blue light spectrum (your branches are very...

When to see Roots from cuttings?

Most cuttings I have made in rockwool take 1 to 3 weeks to show roots out of the cube, depending on the size of the cutting taken. For aero cuttings I'd expect to halve those numbers , based on the size of the cuttings. I dont' do aero so I can't tell you for definite. As you don't have any...
