How many days usually do roots take to drop down from rapid rooters plugs into DWC reservoir?

I covered with hydroton, I don’t have a paper plate. Plus I still have to top feed with my spray bottle till roots are in the reservoir so the plate would be irritating.

Cover with Hydroton? Or maybe a paper plate cut so it can go around the stem?
