Yeah I just had 5 plants and had to cut down 4 today because they were males, it sucks but next harvest should be promising. The pistils pretty much are the pre flowers, females seem like they take a little longer to show than males though.

The light itself won't make any noise, I think if you get a magnetic ballast I have heard that they can rattle but if you go with an electronic ballast there completely silent. Your fan is probably going to be louder and is going to cancel out any noise coming from your lighting system anyway.
