someone told me once the two of the leaves reach the 5 point stage to clip them so it doesnt grow tall but more wide, should i let it keep going and let it keep getting taller?

So this is my plant i have been tryin to grow. One of the leaves are mutated (it curls in at the tip). There is also a spot on one of the leaves below it 9its sorta whitish with a lil brown), and I dont know why it is there. This is my first time, so I need a lil help! Thanks!
