okay all done. new wire, 3 wires (red, black and bare) all connected to the ballast and the plug. ready to switch it on... but it's only 1pm so i'm waiting until tonight to try it out...

thanks for the responses... so following the advice, i used a new wire. 3 wires (red, black and bare) which i've connected to ballast and to plug. all 3 connected. everything looks good. think it's ready
