if you have a 1 gallon pot you run 3 to 5 gallons of water through it and so on to flush out nutes and whatever else, unless you have some serious issues you shouldn't have to do it very often.

All you have to do is put them in flowering until they show sex and when they do pick your mother and put her back into vegging a few days and take your clones, keep your mother in vegging and you can get 15-20 clones every few weeks maybe less time/clones depending on the strain.

I would say both the soil from the dollar store and the closed hot box are your problems, I would transplant to better soil but be careful I've heard your not supposed to mix certain types of soil, stay away from miracle grow. In my "studies" I've had the best results with fox farm ocean forest...
