your plants should be able to survive a day or two in low temps. If your worried you possibly could place a space heater close to your plant.

fruit flys can be bad for your plants as they drink the juices from the plant. I prefer natural solutions... a praying mantis, or beneficial mites perhaps?

They make "y" connectors that would work in your case. Then perhaps a blow back preventers On one of the ends "the one going to the dry". Perhaps $15 for everything from home depot

I might look at doing solar but with fiber optics as opposed to battery. Perhaps they would grow like a regular outdoor plant since they are getting essentially the same light. I've seen these types of systems used to light basements.

3X3 will work however your biggest issue will be heat. you MUST make sure you enough ventilation or you will kill your plants.
