    F1 Brandywine x Valley Ice

I don’t see any seeds developing, which means the Durban Poison pollen was no longer viable. Oh well, live and learn. Next time I store pollen, I will freeze it. I was just curious about the lifespan of pollen in simple storage. Seems like 2 weeks is about the maximum amount of time the pollen...

    F4 Valley Ice _ 72 beans

Female selection has been made. All three displaying deep purple in pre flowers. Plant #1 _ Ahead in flower. Medium sized plant with good structure. Pre flowers are showing frost already. Its going to be a potent one. Plant #2 _ A vigorous larger plant with all desired traits. Pest...

A total of 17 years seems pretty long... but thats how things have turned out. I suppose it could be quicker if I do my selections only indoors, but that betrays the very essence of the project. An IBL that has adapted to the PNW and thrives outdoors. Cant breed an outdoor strain indoors, unless...

    F4 Valley Ice _ 72 beans

Male #4 _ This plant started off really strong. Displaying all the desired traits. I was unsure wether to leave it standing or not because of the freaky leaf mutation. It reminds me of the strain Freakshow. I decided to let it cross pollinate because only 2 leaves had quirky mutations. I wont...

    F4 Valley Ice _ 72 beans

Today I did a full count and inspection of everything. There are a total of 17 males and only 6 of them are true purples. Which is 35.29% Im cutting down all the males and leaving only 5 standing. Those five will open pollinate all the ladies, and I will cut them down once the girls are about...

Alrighty then... Thanks everyone for making me aware of my ignorance. :blsmoke: The like button is apparently irrelevant and responses to my posts is also not relevant. Here is a fun and random piece of information. Ive invested a decade into my Valley Ice breeding project. Im half way to...

    Long Term Mother Care

Popcorny nugs is one solution. Another solution is a well bred plant that flowers earlier in the season. Also, greenhouses or simple tarp set ups to protect the plants from rain is another solution. Force flowering (light deprivation) is also another solution. Bud rot isn't really an issue...

    Long Term Mother Care

That seems plausible. I should implement that practice. How hot does it get in your neck of the woods?
  11. Farmer's Hat

    Long Term Mother Care

For sure. By F3 the strain has begun to adapt to its environment. Three seasons is all it takes to witness significant changes in a strain. Growing out at the very minimum 10 plants is all thats needed. Just make sure to avoid seeding the weak sensitive plants.
  12. Farmer's Hat

    Long Term Mother Care

Breeding is a lot of fun. Its full of surprises and thats what makes it so thrilling, to me. Something I am witnessing first hand is that when breeding is done outdoors, strains adapt to that region. It is one of the best ways to create a highly unique IBL. Growing indoors is great for...

    F1 Brandywine x Valley Ice

Week 3 on 12/12 I took one of clones out and fully pollinated her with Durban Poison. Hopefully the pollen is still viable. I stored it in a dry dark cupboard. I didn’t freeze the pollen. The plant will be sprayed down and placed back into the tent this evening.
  15. Farmer's Hat

F1 Purp Valley Ice x SSH

Week 6 on 12/12 Things are looking good. The aroma on everything is wonderful. Ive had my tent open the last couple of days because the temps were in the 90s. Its hot. The nute burn on plant #1 got a little worse. Crazy sensitive plant. Shes starting to slow down. Only drinking half a cup of...
  16. Farmer's Hat

    F1 Brandywine x Valley Ice

I will be pollinating one F1 plant tomorrow, with Durban Poison (Dutch Passion). Hopefully the pollen is still viable. I collected it several weeks ago. The purple is starting to darken. Plants have a really nice structure and are pretty pungent. Really strong sweet and fruity aroma. I can...

Help plant dieing from top down

Definitely inspect the roots and the stock. Im willing to bet the base is rotting.
  18. Farmer's Hat

    F4 Valley Ice _ 72 beans

All of the males are displaying flowers. Only 3 males have true purple flowers. Thats really low numbers. I was expecting at least a 50/50. Im going to clone 2 of them. The other males I previously selected have been scrapped. Only male #2 is being kept because it is a beautiful sativa leaning...
  19. Farmer's Hat

    F1 Brandywine x Valley Ice

Week 2 on 12/12 Color and trichomes are starting to show. Plants are happy and healthy. Nothing else to report. Cheers
  20. Farmer's Hat

F1 Purp Valley Ice x SSH

Week 5 on 12/12 Everything is coasting. They are drinking less water. The flowers are starting to swell. Plant #1 Seems I overfed her with the last dose of blood meal. Small bute burn. She is still trudging along and is actually quite healthy. The flowers have lost that unusual fermented...
