hey yo yo yo yo! first post guys! i'm finally about to drop in the plants, with everything in hand there's one problem; the temperature in my closet reads 78~79 right now WITHOUT lighting( 400 hps basic from htg, being shipped). i learned the opt temperature for marijuana is 75 and 90 is the top and has to be avoided, so i think i'm pretty fucked... i can afford a carbon filter and an incline fan for vent and some regular fans for circulation, is dat gonna reduce enough heat? i'm not gonna be able to run duct to outdoors and the most i can do is putting the exhaust by the window. NEED PRO LEVEL MONEY SAVING HELP! APPRECIATED !!!:peace:

Hey,
I have a 600watt hps in a 5 x 3.5 x 3 space with a can fan and filter output(sucking grow room air to a differnt part of my house), with a 5'' muffin fan for intake(from outside), and it keeps my room at 81 degrees F. So I think with an outtake fan you would be just fine with a 400watt.

Thats interesting, he has already said it too hot without the light, he doesn't have your air movement. I DON'T RECOMMEND HID LIGHTS FOR CLOSETS. Its like buying a furnace made in the 60's and installed now. Its about 60% efficient and needs a chimney to the outside. The new energy efficient one use a 1 1/2" pvc exhaust and intake. Get in the 21st century. Hey, if you have one of the new energy efficient furnaces maybe you can use the old chimney for the dinosour light?? lmfao VV

soooo, get the fan and carbon filter and have it blow out the window and have a passive intake from your house or other way around, and put the input by the window , and a little fan to move air in the grow............I would say it would work(opinion). I dont know about this 1 1/2" exhaust/input stuff but I would say 400 watt HID(dinosour) is perfect for a closet(opinion).

agreed.. i'm kinda in a tight ass budget right now, so carbon filter has to be set up after 1 week or 2. can i just use a bunch of regular fans for cooling for a while???

If you can get those temps down to 70 F (or thereabouts) using fans (both oscillating and exhaust), you'll be fine with an air-cooled hood and a 400w bulb. You won't need the carbon filter until the plants start getting stinky.
