1000 hps Off/On

Three lights in my flowering tent

To reduce heat from the 1000hps I want to turn it on and off every two hours. The other lights are cool and warm and amount to about 150 watts all told.

Will this on/off approach have any bad effects?

just throw a fan in there sucking air out problem solved . plants must have a steady 12/12 or its fucked . and these hps bulbs are not expose to be struck . to you that is turned on more then 1 time a day . it will be worn out in a month . depending what kind of ballast you use if its magnetic . it will only last 6 months .

The on/off on bulbs and ballast is will cause them to wear faster is all I need to know.

I have three fans in there, one on the humidifier, one in the tube for the hps, and a free fan on high and they do not dissipate the heat, goes as high as 95 with fans on.

No A/C yet.

I am preparing the 7' tall X 4' deep X 4' wide tent in my garage for the cold weather finish of my 100% Sativas which will likely go all the way to March b 4 harvest. Would rather warm up the garage than cool down the ambient temperature in the tent. It gets to about 35-40 degrees on the coldest days in winter in the garage. The heat from the two bulbs I am planning to have in the tent, 1000 hps 1000mh, should be sufficient for an 80 degree ambient in the tent.

I just wanted to veg them in the smaller tent for a few more months. I have ordered a Corn Light, 350 watts, which runs 90% cooler than the hps. I will be moving the 1000hps to the larger flowering garage tent in several weeks, hoping 500 watts of light in the smaller tent is all I need till the transfer.

I agree with @bryan oconner that you need a more powerful fan. A proper fan should be able to properly cool a 1,000 watt HPS.

With your setup, a proper fan will make it so that your tent is only a couple degrees higher than the ambient temperature where the tent is located.
