1000 Watt Light for 4x4x6.5 grow room?

Hi all,

Im setting up a Ebb and Flow very similar to this one here.
http://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=99983

I have a 4x4x6.5 grow tent that I am using and wanted to get some advice.
Im concerned that my light is a little too powerful for this setup. Has anyone tried 1000w light in a similar sized cab? Any problems that are foreseen, or that I should be aware of?

I will be growing 3 LARGE plants in 3 gallon buckets with this self-sustaining setup.
Hoping to get some giants out of this.

I haven't done this in a while so I need to be sure.
Thanks for any help!

my local grow shop recommended against putting a light that strong in a tent that size. dont know why but then again if u say fire is hot i would listen..lol good luck bro

i have the same4'x4' except 6'tall dimensions in mind for a 400-w set-up with the light height able to adjust . first indoor grow gonna use soil & figure things out from there got cannabis card on the way looking at #ak-47 low-rider feminized seeds tryin to keep it simple for now

Lol, that is the set-up that I have. Sorta.

I grow four large trees in seven gallons using a 600 in that size tent. I use an 8 in to exhaust. Thru a cooltube, 8 inch.

I used to use that exact same bottle thing, for a few weeks. It has probs with the drains. I know you are using three gallons. Other than that the design works great.

The 600 watter Lumatek gives me a lot of light. Hot too. I would not know about going bigger. But you will have to have an airconditioner to keep it down right there. My 600 with an 8 in and cool air still gets kinda hot in places. It is under control tho. I do live in the desert.

good luck whatever you choose.

If you keep your ballast (magnetic, digital shouldn't have a problem with heat) outside the room, and hook it up a cooltube with some good intake and exhaust fans, you can keep HPS lights pretty cool.

Good luck with cooling a 1000 watter in a tent. There hot in a big room.

yeah the reason you are not going to want to use a light that large is because it will get very very hot and even with ventilation you will still see heat problems, 1000watts are rated for like 8ft by 8ft so half of that well 1/4 of square space is going to be tough. the other thing you want to consider is not using an ebb+flow like that, it will lessen the amount of vertical space you have to work with and not let your plants get as high, i would recommend doing like 6 plants in either a bubbleponics or aeroponics system where your plants are not in a tray but directly in the res.

also, you wont get large plants in three gallon buckets. you will want to get some 10 gallon grow bags. Or seven. They are no big deal. That will let you get some decent growth.

I veg four and flower four. In seven gallons. Same tent. I am moving up to a bigger size. Super soil. So easy. So much coolness.

If you want hydro. I would do reciculating dwc in at leat 5 gallons. Or just plaing dwc. Clone as you go. No reason for mothers. You will see. So many extra shoots to chop.:)

just some fun advice.

ya i have a tent thats 5x5x6 with 1000w hps in it and iam having heat issus. along with a 4x4x6 tent with a 400w metial and iam haveing little heat issus with it too but i have a ac tower fan on the way. that iam going to rig my intake hoses to it and run that as my intake fan bc its rated at 325cfm and shockingly thats more then my exhuast fan thats 309cfm and i reay hope that gets my temp down i will let u know soon how it gose. the fan should be in here by the weekend. and my thought on that set up is if u dont have the heat under control and it get to excessive u will burn ur kids. and that would be no buano

Dammit!!

Well Im stuck with this ebb and flow. As noob as I sound, I can just turn it into a sea of green if i have height problems.. no??

As for the light issue, I've started another thread bc it's probably gonna get controversial.

I was thinking about putting a 600 w bulb in the 1000w ballast and see if that will work.
Ive been reading arguments for both sides, but just wanted to get input from people that have actually put this into practice.

I just set up a 1000 watt light in a 5 x 5 tent and ran it all sealed up for three hours the temp stayed at 81 with only a a blower sucking air from the light exhausting outside of the tent. I also have a separate vortex fan exhausting the tent itself. With this set up I was at 78. I will be using c02 so the main tent exhaust will be off for 15 minutes while the co2 is on. When the co2 is off the main exhaust will kick back on. The light exhaust will be on only when the light comes on ( on the same timer ) and kick off when the light turns off. The trick is to make sure the hood is sealed so your pulling all the heat from the light. Use the 1000 ! you wont regret it.

I personally say 2 600W in cooltubes with they're owe devote ventilation (I.e. Have intake with fan to cooltube to a short amount of venting to second cooltube to attic via another fan... Sound like overkill but I know two people personally who use this (I would too if I could afford it) and it kills the only difference is they use dual arc bulbs.

2 words....NO WAY! 1000 Watt is way overkill. In addition to the heat, 1000 watt bulbs will burn leaves at a distance of anything under about 30 inches....sometimes at even more distance. In the reflector, the bulb itself will already be hanging 10 - 12 inches below the ceiling and your plant containers/buckets will be 12+ inches off the ground. That leaves you about 1 foot of safe distance. Once the plants start growing, they'll almost immediately start getting burned.

I had many successful grows with a 430 Watt full spectrum bulb in a tent that size. PLENTY of light.
