1000w split into twin 600s?

So who has used a splitter to convert their 1k hps ballast to power two 600w mh. They sell splitters at the grow shop, buy mh bulbs that have a differnt ignition (pulse start I think they said) add another hood and you have just spread your lumens over two points instead of one, right?

since a 100w ballast is rated @ 1000w & 9.5 (ish) amps ...it cant make 1200w via relays (splitter).

the splitter cant generate power.
& i know they dont play well with digi anything... old school magnetic ballast is a must.

works like... takeing a 600 but only pumping 500 to it.

i see applications with it... but for now i like pushing a singlw 1000w.

maybe someone will chime in that uses one & ownes any type of light meter.

among many lights i have in play, there'si a 600w in my stash.

and i own a meter, we can compare co*ks.

500watts is what I heard, wouldl it then extend the life of the 600w bulb since its not being run at full power? Wouldnt you be able to get more llight this way since you could get the two 500w lights closer to the canopy as oposed to the 1000w? Arent two points of light better than one since you could get a better spread of lumens?

i think it depends on how you do what you do.

and, i'm doubtful of lumens & light intensity ...until i have or can be shown solid proof that 2 @ 500w are better than 1 @ 1000w.

i'd just run 2 @ 600 then.

i use a thouy. heat isnt an issue if you have either proper enviro controls or air cooled lovliness.

this time of year i rock a vert bare bulb.

how can you cover more area with two 500s than i am in these pics with a 1000w?

600 is 3x3 maybe 4x4 area at best.

1000 is 5x5 maybe 6x6 at best.

imo, never having used the splitter, i'd bet the harvest the 1000w buds will be much nicer too.

better spread because the shape im lighting is a 7foot long aeroflo2 system not a square tray, the edges always suffer because the plants in the center stretch more further blocking lights from the 8 or so plants on the ends.

rock the splitter with two hoods.

im still not sold on buying two 600s only to push 500w. why? just run them as 600s.

me : i would use the 1000w on a light mover myself. <== i've done it with a 600w very successfully on a 6x2 ebb set up.

very much a perfect solution ....over running bulbs underpowered.

i'd never buy a hotrod to "detune" it... same principal here.

i do want to score a splitter to keep in my stash ...as a way to create two back up lights from one ballast.

^ that's why i would grab one.

i also keep both types of conversion cords (BAASR & BAASwhatevr) and extra bulbs of every wattage... when you run big willy style "back up" is not just a word but a concept by which one must work.

i see value in the splitter.
i see incredible value in that dual ballast above too.

it all comes down to cost, I'd love to run two 6's as opposed to one 1K but then I would have to buy two more ballasts as well as another hood and two bulbs ( which is around 400$!!) Now that dual ballast is sweet, but it only runs on 240v, yet another cost....

Almost bought it until I saw it required 220v... makes sense I guess but I'm not set-up for it!
