1000w vs 2 x 400 or 2 x 600 - Pros/Cons?

Hello, I've setup my veg tent, with a 400w MH.

When its time to flower I will have purchased a 4x4x7 (possibly slightly larger, depends whats availabe) to flower 6 plants

Originally I was just planning to throw 1 600w in but then I remembered something I read suggested at least 50w per sq ft. I am assuming the 6 plants will cover the whole tent, so I'm gonna be at 16sqft. minimum, so 800w minimum?

So now that I'd be looking at 2 x 400w HPS, I figure I might as well consider 2 x 600w and a single 1000w.

Right now in summer my place pretty much doesn't go above 80 (hooray for living 1/2 mile from the ocean!)

Usually my place is lingering in the low 70's.

Can someone throw out some pros and cons of the 2 x 600w and 1x 1000w HPS as upgrade choices? Would I need more than a nice high CFM fan?

I'm looking to maximize yield but also don't want to have to bring in AC to keep it cool. I also don't want to rock a more expensive setup if the benefit wouldn't be on par (i.e. if 2x600 vs 2x400 would only increase production roughly 10% I doubt I'd find that feasible personally but I'm still new to this)

you can fit way more than six plants in that area, you can easily fit 12-16 plants in there. I grow six under a 400 watter hps in a 3x2x7 ft area.

I really wanna know too.. I would think 2x600 would cover more space. From what i hear ur gonna be using about the same amount of power.

i have a growhut with the same measurements.. i would defintely go with a 1000w bc i would think that 2 600's would get too hot in the cab. i myself use a 1000w dual-arc hybrid bulb in a cooltube and it works great in the hut.. temps i have stabilized at 78. just my .02.

I'm actually trying to stay legal as far as California is concerned in regards to being a medical marijuana patient.

California Proposition 215 allows me to have 12 plants, but only 6 mature (i.e. 6 flower 6 veg)

I could get a revised recommendation saying I need to produce more but for now I'm just trying to stay legit with cali basics and hope not to attract the attention of the DEA lol

Essentially I just wanna know how much light to maximize 6 plants out, right now with the feedback so far I'm probs gonna look into a 1000w but will keep checkin up.

I'm going to be growing The Church, and Hindu Kush. I posted in advanced forum about breeding and was basically told, DON'T, lol, cuz im not growing hundreds of plants and i'm an amatuer grower, but I might throw something together anyways and call it Sacred Kush lol, would be fun even if its not amazing buds i think, whats it hurt to use some of the males from the Hindu Kush seeds i sprout on one or two buds anyways as long as I remove them from the females when they show sex?

i just started the church like two weeks ago. only two of my five fem. greenhouseseeds sprouted but they both look healthy but one is twice the size of the other.

I would think you would be fine with the 1000 watter for six plants. less hassle than two ballast and replacing two bulbs instead of one every several months

As far as the the 6 plant count, check online to find out the local (county) guidelines as they differ from city to city. The 6 flower or 12 bud is a state standard but if for whatever reason you got busted (with under 99 plants - 100 makes it go federal) you would be handled locally and probably let off the hook.

I have a friend who grew 90 plants (3 rooms full) and got busted. He had his medcard as I do and walked the next day. Did have some court fines though for going over the 24 limit in our county.

Ah man =/ that sounds dissapointing and discouraging as I have 5 greenhouseseeds the church trying to germinate, and 2 of the seeds looked tiny and pathetic to begin with, if i get something like 2/5 i'm gonna be upset lol, you should message greenhouse or where you ordered from, I would, 2/5 germinating is unacceptable for the price they charge on fem seeds!

also prop 215 laws also can be dictated by the amount that is prescribe to your needs so if in a county that only alows 6 mature but you are prescribed with a dosage that would exceed the limits of 6 then you prescribed amount would overrule the 6 mature law.
