100w equiv CFL too much for a sprout?

Hey all,

My sprout finally opened her two leaves today. The first two that form that are round, I forget what they are called.

Anyway, I left for like 2.5 hours and left her about 6" under a 100W equivalent (23w draw) CFL, and maybe my eyes are playing tricks on me, but I think those two round leaves got smaller. I re-misted her with PH'd water and gave her a few good sprays before I put the makeshift soda bottle "dome" back over the party cup she's in and those leaves dropped a bit from the watering.

I dont see any discoloration but do they tend to shrink a bit before the fan leaves start to form? I keep the Coco Coir she's in pretty well damp and misted her before I left so the light was only on 2.5 hours unchecked but I'm worried about it going to bed tonight.

It should be worth note that I can barely even notice any heat at 6" from the bulb, and they were there all week while germing just to keep the temps above colder room temps being winter and all, and the seed shell literally just fell off today so these guys are newborns.

If my terminology is fucked up, forgive me, I don't know all the names of cannabis anatomy yet.

I think you're imagining it. I'm thinking this is your first grow? To much light won't cause the leaves to shrink. They will discolor first. When the first pair of true leaves are fully out, you can move the light closer. You're going to need more lights. Are you staying with CFL's?

Yeah it's my first grow. I'll have at least 6 23w (100w equiv) CFL's supplementing a 240w LED light in a 4x2x5 tent.

I have 1 12oz cup with an Aurora Indica and 1 12oz cup with Snow White with only 1 6500k bulb hanging over each until they get a node or two.

Put the LED above and the CFL's around when they get bigger. Or were you planning to scrog?

Do not even worry about the (Equivalent) of a CFL, as it's referring to Incandescent globe equiv. You need to only consider TRUE wattage when looking at / using CFL globes.

So a 23w is only a 23w, no matter what it is equivalent too on the box.... Just FYI.

Good luck.

I woke up this morning to my AI cotyledon leaves drooping strait down almost. The two serrated fan leaves did grow some but not much. Still no discoloration.

I misted the domes and the plants a bit and turned off the lights for a few hours to give them time to rest. Hope this helps.

This is also my first grow I'm not trying to jack the is thread or anything but I have one queen plant that has been in flower since January 14th and this is what she looks like today I'm running 12 2700k 23w CFLs and 2 3500k fluorescent tunes running along the bottom of the plants she's not the only one in flower I now have 6 others in there with her my question is. Is this enough light for cfl grow? And should I expect her to get any taller she has grown about a foot since she was moved. I'm using a cheap homemade hydro setup with 2 18 gallon tubs. I have fan leaves drooping at the bottom of each plant no discolor or anything they are just hanging. Can I cut most of these off? I don't wanna put any stress on my plants as they are getting light in every direction. Any info will help. Thanks.

After 24 hours still no improvement. I gave the plant 6 hours of lights off last night to rest and was hoping the leaves would bounce back but they are still a nice green but droopy.

Does it usually take 24+ hours for an over-watered sprout to rebound?

dude start your own thread... on a side note....

soviet,

a seedling with just the cotyledons is going to take awhile to recover from overwatering because there isnt any roots there yet to suck it up

Looks like my Snow White is doing better. Now if my Aurora Indica could get her shit together all would be well with the universe.

You newbies....
Also...
Spray the soil... not the plant...
Keep the water and the water weight off the plant..
Let the soil dry just as all have said...

In those little 12oz party cups it's hard not to spray everything when you do.
And that is the difference between experience, and a newbie...

I have cloned maybe 300 + or minus ... in the last year...
All in Red Party Cups...
All sprayed the soil...
Never sprayed the plant matter...
Never lost any...
What are you saying you clone in soil, never loose a clone, and do 300 per year?
Yes that's what I am saying...
DON'T SPRAY THE PLANT MATTER...
Be more specific... be more detailed...

What is your exact medium ?
