EN4CER'S Grow Journal
I will be using an AeroGarden (Home Of The AeroGarden From AeroGrow International :: 1-800-476-9669). The aerogarden, which I will be calling 'the unit' or 'AG', is a small aeroponic gardening system that allows you to grow herbs/spices/vegetables/etc. with very little to no maintenance. If you want more info on this contraption then just follow the link above.
December 25'th, 2007 - Planting
For my first attempt I will be using bag seed (a.k.a. - bush, schwag or regs seeds). I will allow the unit to germinate the seed rather than germinate it myself first and then placing the germinated seed within the sponge. In case you are completely new to the scene read the definition for germination below. It's basically the step of a plants life where the seed cracks open and it 'sprouts'.
I picked the healthiest seed out of a very seed heavy and high friendly 1/2 oz.. It was green and round rather than many of the other black, tan and brown ones that were often times flat or cracked. All of these came from the same bag of a VERY compact/dense product. So I'm sure these seeds are coming from more than one plant.
So with that said I went ahead and replaced the Italian Basil herb within it's seed pod of sponge with my own little seed o' hope and then placed it within the very front and center pod-hole of the grow deck. I then set the water pump and light timer to Herb/Basil, which I'm told is a set cycle of somewhere near 17/7. I'm pretty sure that number is slightly off since I'm going off of memory. When I get the exact time I will re-edit.
Things went off without a hitch and I placed the other seed pods in their corresponding slots. I figure it won't hurt to have them there until their roots start to show. I don't want to nute burn my crop by it being the only thing eating.
December 27'th, 2007 - Too Early
No sprout, yet. I know that when I have germinated seeds with a paper towel in the past it literally only took 1 full night for the seed to crack and for me to find green fingers peeking curiously past their husk. This, of course, is a little different than a paper towel. I'm doing some reading up and am looking into buying some FoxFarm nutrients and a Ph tester.
Also, I'm basically tearing down all of their technical support reps in order to get another AeroGrarden for free. I'm about to run out of names and addresses. So far they've sent me a free water pump and grow deck. My wife is calling today with our real address and a new excuse.
I was looking at buying a 400WATT Metal Halide lamp for the flowering stage. Since it's so far off I'm not too concerned yet. Please feel free to drop me some price-cutting suggestions. I've written all that I can for today. I will be back soon and hopefully with some results.

Hail and well met. I am the 420 Enforcer and I welcome you
within my first thread and hope that you can gleam some
knowledge from me and maybe somewhere along
the line I can do the same from you.
This will be my first official grow. I once made an attempt
at soil many years back and failed miserably. The Anarchist
Cookbook can teach you everything but how to be a green
thumb. Now the internet is MUCH more robust and
information on cultivating marijuana is much more
readily available and easily accessible.
Without further ado I present to you my first growing journal.

Next up was the nutrients that came with the AG. There was a whole box of this stuff. They are just small water soluble tablets that contain the chemicals and nutrients that my Basil like Herb garden will need to munch on for survival. A small plastic ziploc baggie about the size of a coin-bag was titled 'Starters'. I went ahead and dropped those into the unit and filled the water level within the reservoir to its maximum level.Germinate

Nute Burn: Nute burn is evident by finding discoloration on or within a plant grown in a controlled environment. Nute burn affects bottom growth first and usually shows up on the leaf tips. Nute burn stands for nutrient burn which occurs when you have given a plant the wrong amount of or incorrect nutrients.
