120 watt bulb for 1 plant? good?

im curious on the subject, i keep seeing that if your growing numerous plants, 400 watt bulbs are necessary. but, im just wanting to know what type of bulb would be necessary if i was to grow one plant. only.

how do you plan on growing it. as a bush,or a scrog, small,or big? i guess we would have to know what you want out of the plant to recomend a light to you.

if you plan on growing a tall bushy plant then your going to need a HID a high pressure sodium can veg and flower your plant if you only plan on buying one light. i hate to make recomendations but if you want a tall plant 400watts or bigger is the way to go. but if you go that rout then you might as well grow a few plants. if you want to grow with less light you could set up a screen and grow under it-scrog. that will utilize the most out of your light. for every foot away from your plants the light it recieves is cut in half. so to get the most out of your lights your going to need to keep them close without burning your plant(s). why do you want to grow only one?

im not growing only one, im growing around 8 of them. i just cant really afford a high wattage bulb. because i looked them up. and they cost around 30 dollars. and im currently using a lamp with an extending wire neck. and i figure if i just get a few of the 120 bulbs i could put one over each of the plants seperately, so i was just trying to see what wattage light i should use for a single plant. so i could use that on all of them. i have plenty of the lamps with the wire necks. just. cant really afford to be buying expensive bulbs right now.

if your going to be growing like that my advice would be to get a bunch of cfls. i realy have not much expierience with cfls but alot of guys grow decent plants with them. id get a bunch of 65 watters and try to keep the plants small. cause like i said light diminishes quickly. for the price of a bunch of small bulbs you may be able to afford something nicer? or try to learn to scrog ive always been a fan of scrogs some of my first grows were scrogs with a 250 hps.

so, the CFLs are those twirly lightbulbs that are "more energy efficient"? and scrogs. im looking into that, and it doesnt seem very difficult, but does it support high yield? or convenience of space?

i figured that they probably did, those arent too expensive are they? if its around 7 dollars than i can afford it, im a cheap bastard like that :P. dont get me wrong, i would love to give my babies the best they can get, its just the fact i lack an income right now. makes it kind of difficult

for 1 plant just get 4 or 5 25w warm white cfl,s and 4 or 5 cool white cfls i did a small grow with these and was well impressd with the overall results over 1 1/2 oz but a bit fluffy

yea cfls are the swirly ones. scrogs will give you better, denser buds and higher yeilds with smaller lights. but the trade of is a little more work and a longer veg time. they also work best when youve got a mother going so you can cut clones. and its definitly better on space. with a scrog your lights will be close to the screen wich the plant will be trained to fill. then when you flower the bud sights are all at the same lvl recieving the same amount of light so the lower branches will have as dense of buds as the top branches. otherwise only the tops are nice with week lights. read into it it may be the thing for you. scrogging was one of the first methods i used to grow back when i was in colledge and it worked well and was fun to.

alright, sounds cool, thanks alot man. and just another question. does maybe, 2 65 watt bulbs sound good, im currently using one 65w for the plant, but someone said it wouldnt do much of anything for it.

the more the better 65 watts is not alot there is a basic formula lots of people follow when trying to get good buds and that is 50 watts per square foot of grow space. so 2-65s will be good for about 2.5 square feet which is not much space. another reason why scrog systems work for low watt grows there is very little vertical growth. if your planning on 8 plants still 2-65s would not be enough. sorry but thats about the fact of it. youll need more wattage. ive got 200 watt cfls that cost $75 for the bulb and you can get the mogul socket to plug it in for $7-$10 bucks and make your own reflector. i bought my reflecter i cannot even comment on these as i have not used them for much. they have some seedlings under them getting ready for outdoors.

im currently using a 65 watt bulb. on my babies, and instead of getting that many low ones, couldnt i get 2 65 watts? i was told before that 65 watts wont do hardly anything. ive been using it for around a week. and im uploading a picture of my result. they look very healthy, and are growing very well.
