1st Time Grow Northern Lights (Vision) 8 pot wilma

Hi all,

First time grower just thought I would have a go at making a journal so here is what I am up to:

Secret Jardin Dark Street 120 tent (a bit cramped but really good quality)
8 pot wilma system (heated res & Air pump added)
Light Wave T5 2' for seedlings
600w HPS for flower
A bunch of LED lights to supplement flowering
General Hydroponics nutes 3 step
5" RVK 125E-L1 Fan with PHAT filter and acoustic ducting (the tent almost imploded when I switched it on lol)
Small oil heater and a good size desk fan for movement

Think that's the whole set up or at least the main bits, the little ones are in rock wool at the moment as you can see fro the pics. The growth you can see is after 3 days in a small propagator. The roots are starting to show so soon I will move them to their individual pots, which contain clay pebbles.

I will set the flood drippers to go for 15 mins ever other hour (unless anyone can give me better advice). The res is filled to 60 liters and I will start with half the recommended strength of nutes.

As you can see from the pics I planted 16 seeds as I was expecting many not to do anything but most of them are already out and look great, now I just have to pic the strongest looking to plant out. I have tried to grow in the past but all the seedlings died right away which is why I planted so many this time round (seems I picked well) I also pick what I'm told is a great seed for newbs like me.

Any advice or comments are more than welcome and I hope I've posted this right. I will update with some progress soon20130602_204153.jpg20130602_204203.jpg20130606_091106.jpg20130606_091113.jpgI'm sorry but my pics are side ways, not sure why.

Hi guys, a little concerned about some of my girls. Some of the leaves look twisted. Can any one let me know if this is a bad thing? Other than that things seem to be going well with 3 feeds at half strength a day. Thanks :-P
Sorry cant post a pic but will do.

Ok so I have now sorted out the twisted leaves now by lowering the nutes and things are going great :) Here are some pics:

They now live under a 600w hps lamp and seem to love it

Coming along very nicely wotnot. Had a northern lights from white label seeds going myself my last grow. Lost it due to root rot :( got 2 oz of smoke from it but it was mediocre. and that was with 3/4 weeks left. Im sure if it were to go the full flowering period would have been some amazing smoke! can i suggest some cannazym? Ive used it in my waterfarm for my current grow and there is no sign of sickness and growth just sky rocket's!

So I'm doing NL from Vision right now, I did 12/12 from seed and am quite happy with the results, the smell is amazing floral/fruity. I have no idea how long she's been in flower. But would estimate 3 weeks left (So maybe 5-6 weeks?).

I'd say she's about 24 inches tall give or take.

You inspired me to post my first post, I've been lurking for over a year. Had a real hard time finding others that have grown Vision Gear.

Hey Jasper I will give the cannazym a go, sorry to hear you lost most of your crop dude. I tried to grow with soil 3 times in the past and every single crop died after a few days it's gutting (seed aint cheap lol).
Mr Head, that is some epic bud :) hope mine turn out as well. Are you growing hydro too or soil? As for the smell my fan is so strong I don't get to smell much yet and they're kinda small still too lol. 12/12 from seed?? I was thinking of veg for a while to get them a bit bigger.
Anyway here are some updates:

I just did 12/12 because I don't have a lot of room had other stuff going at the time and figured I'd give 12/12 a go. Honestly wasn't expecting much from these seeds as I couldn't find any info on them being grown. I am in super cheap soil ($4 30ltr bag Perlite Pete and compost mix.) with about a cup of pelleted dolomite lime. I have found it's a pretty light feeder.

I am thinking of revegging the NL. I'll be vegging to about 2 feet if I do as it didn't seem to stretch much once flower started. Thinking I might run this one Scrog down the road.

I also have some Big Bud(vision) going, one looks amazing the other not so much :). But that is probably my fault.

Soil killed me lol just didn't get any results with it and my little ones just died on me. This hydroponic stuff is amazing though. Some say it's not as forgiving but I think it is great. Good to know they don't stretch a great deal in flower as I want to veg these for some time before I flower. As for Vision seeds.... well so far so good lol, I will be using them again if I don't get the money for a clone set up in time. I want to get two tents a smaller one for cuttings and veg and keep my bigger one for bud :weed:

I've been wanting to try hydro myself. I made my DWC Buckets about a year ago, just haven't got around to putting them to use. Honestly I might just scrap them and get a 4 site wilma, that thing looks pretty slick :) Would fit my space nicely.

I honestly find Hydro kinda intimidating :)

As for Vision yeah they seem pretty legit. I got a couple more beens left over, can't wait to try out their White Widow. I'll let you know in a few weeks how the Norther Lights and Big Bud smoke :) Best of luck in your endeavour :)

Yeah I would love to know how good it is thanks. As for hydro I am finding it so much easier than soil and my seedling have lasted more than a couple of days lol I would say just go for it dude.

Mr Head Hydro is awesome :) give it a go, you will not regret it dude.

Right so here are some recent pics:

20130707_141711.jpgThey look good until you take a closer look:20130707_141628.jpg20130707_141637.jpg20130707_141645.jpg20130707_141702.jpg

The only thing I can think could be the cause is my PH which tends to keep dropping quickly. I really need to keep on top of this. If any one has ideas on what is going wrong here feel free to chuck a comment in.

And it gets worse..... Oooops..... Any idea guys as this is not good at all. The tips are fried could this be nute burn or is it the other end of the spectrum and some kind of deficiency. Thing I dont get is that they are all feeding from the same res and all the same age, some are fine and some are fried.

If they are grown from seed this is were your problem is. A central res wont work as some will need more feed then others.

what is your ph

PH SHOULD NEVER GO DOWN.

obv it will when you lower nutes etc but in the res it means normally root rot or something along those lines.

for you however....did you ph soak the clay pebbs and rockwool before using? IM gussing you didn't and this is the root of your problem of falling ph.

if this is the case all you can do is constantly adjust ph.

do you have a ph test and ec test means???

Does the leafs that are burnt rest on the pebbs or get sprayed by that nozzell? It doesn't look like nute burn as not all leafs are effected

Hi lemon king, you're right I didn't check the Ph of the pebbles or rock wool :( I have been adjusting Ph on an almost daily basis. The Ph right now is down to 5.7 but it has been known to drop under 5 before. I check the calibration often so I know the metre is ok as for Ec it creeps up more than I would like and I'm in a hard water area so I'm at a disadvantage before I start. Ec is at 1.50 at the moment and I calibrate this one too. As for the flood drippers you may be onto something there. Could evaporation not lower Ph? Because I loose a lot of the res that way.
I'm going to sink the drippers in deeper and see if that helps as for root rot the ones I can see are awesome and will clog my system up any day now lol.
Thanks for your help my friend :)

I've heard a lot of people rave about Dyna-Gro in Hydro for it's PH stability. It might not help because of the hydroton and rockwool issue but it's worth looking into, I was going to give them a try but shipping was a bit more then I wanted to pay.

Good luck I am sure you will get it figured out.

Could he not run ph'ed water through the pots and rock wool into like his bathtub or something until his run off is where he wanted? or is it to late for that?

Look around this site, several guys and gals using just the foliage pro from Dyna-gro with some Cal Mag if needed. A lot seem to like the Protekt product they offer as well.

Disclaimer: I have never used Dyna Gro I have read a lot of hydro guys posts who do. I don't think I've seen a negative comment about their products on this site. Other then people who are pissed off people are getting better results then they do with their over priced AN products (I am an AN user for now ;) )

Looking good so far wotnot. I have a suggestion regarding the yellow leaves. What if you were to put tin foil below the plant to stop it touching the pebbles? I see you dont have a drip ring on your waterfarms but it helps a lot and the roots are so stubborn that they will poke out of the hydroton. And if light were to reach these roots it doesnt end well. Maybe it could be that but thats my opinion :)
