2 closets, 1 room, money to spend

I'm moving into a new apartment in a week or so and I'm going to have extra room so I want to start my first garden. I'm a very experienced smoker but new to growing so I was hoping I could get pointed in the right direction as far as the garden setup goes. I want to be able to harvest a few plants every month. I'm doing my research, but I was seeing if I could get some ideas from experienced growers as far as what I need to start and how to set it up with the amount of space I have.

Like I said, I have an extra bedroom with a closet and a closet in my bedroom for space, and $1000-$1500 to spend on necessary equipment. Any input is greatly appreciated.

depends on how many plants you want to grow.
if you want to harvest every couple of months you have got a little work ahead of you....you'll need to setup a vegging room (or closet)
(your vegging plants cannot be in the same room as your flowering plants)
the amount and size of lights will depend on how many plants you intend to have. MH are good for vegging and HPS for flower (HPS can be used throughout)
If you intend to harvest every couple of months you will need to clone off your vegging plants, or keep a couple of mother plants in a room vegging by themselves, although this can get a little complicated for somebody who hasnt grown before...you may want to just try one harvest before you start a perpetual grow

The spare bedroom and closet is a definite, the second closet I'm not sure of yet. I want to find an efficient, high yielding method, if I have to spend a little up front, so be it. I would like to harvest a half pound to a pound each month. Once again I'm new to growing so I'm trying to familiarize myself with all this material over the next couple weeks. I have a couple friends that have experience with growing, but I want to get my own knowledge base first.

I'm determined so I would like to start off with multiple plants, and I have a lot of free time to work with so I THINK I can manage a few BUT, I don't want to speak too early as I haven't begun yet.

Depending on how many plants you're trying to grow at a time, within that budget I'll be harvesting 9 plants every 2 months. Here's what I'm currently using

4ft 4 bulb T5 HO in the closet for vegging ($140)
600w HPS w/ digital ballast for flowering ($330)
4" carbon filter w/ fan for flowering room ($130)
4'x4'x76" grow tent for flowering from Amazon ($105)
Fox Farms Ocean Forest soil ($20 / bag)
Jacks Classic nutes...will be upgraded after first harvest (10$ for both veg and flower nutes)

@thedoc - I like the sound of your setup, since I have the closet and the bedroom I should work to setup the veg room in the closet and the flowering room in the bedroom right?
Also another thing I was worried about was will I have to make any major modifications to the actual apartment that a landlord might have to be notified of? If it's something I can sneak under the radar I'm willing to do it but if I have to knock down a wall for example I'd like to know now haha.

@ken - that would be great it would give me a good base to start with and would be appreciated.

I veg in a closet and flower in an empty room. The only damage I did to the house for the whole grow was putting a couple hooks in the ceiling of the closet to hang the light.

@pros - Maybe I'll have to cut my expectations a little short, but I still intend to have a high yielding garden.

@doc - I appreciate the guidance. I'm going to the Dominican Republic January 16th - 23rd so the day I come back I intend to begin germinating my Nirvana seeds. In the meantime I'm going to get all the stuff I need and move into the apartment. If it's all good by you, I might need to pm you once I get to the next step for a little more insight.

it is possible you will just to have plants in veg and flower and have some mother plants in veg all the time for cloning would be best way but will take a little while to set up but once up and runing will have reqular harvest

@doc - could you actually describe a little bit how your setup looks. Pot placement, drainage, etc (on your own time of course not rushing anything).

@r1 - definitely will, sucks I'm on the first floor with 4 dudes above me. From what I hear though, they're cool guys, hopefully they're 420 friendly.
