2 x 250w cfl(total 500w) VS 250w HPS

need advice on which is best

if its a 250w cfl and not the equivalent of, then the cfl is producing more light and on a broader spectrum. if it is the equivalent of 250 watts then the hps. The thing is, to my understanding, cfl has a much broader range of spectrum, but the hps is much a much more intense light of the spectrum you really need to flower. Also if your gonna go with the cfl it diminishes at a much faster rate per inch so you need those suckers right up near the plant where an hps can be a bit further for the same effect.
