20"x36" Tent, COB LEDs, and DWC

Hello friends and welcome! I've got a modest little closet grow going and this time I thought I'd document it the whole way.

Last grow I was very happy with the results. My goal was to grow a smooth smoking bud (that I knew was flushed), that had the best possible taste and smell (due to being cured properly). I made many mistakes along the way but in the end I yielded about 3 1/2 ounces dry bud from one plant. For my first "real" grow and first attempt using Cob LEDs and DWC, I was extremely happy. The nugs smell sweet and lemony with a hint of diesel at the end. The smoke is soy smooooooth and tastes so good in a nice clean joint. The high is up in the head which is exactly what I like ;D

This go around with be my 2nd and last grow at this house as I will be moving in August. The specs are about the same, just rearranged. I cleaned up some ducting and maximized the space in my tent. Thinking about adding a PVC framed SCROG in the future that will also help prevent the walls of my tent from sucking in. Here are the specs:

Apollo Tent - 36"x20"x62"
4x CXB 3070s mounted on 4x Arctic PC coolers
Ventech 4" inline and combo carbon filter
1-3 DWC buckets

As stated above, I'll be doing that bubble thing again. I was amazed with the growth so I want to perfect the method. I germinated a total of 3 seeds, all from bags from dudeman.
The two biggest ones are Lavender Jones, I really enjoyed the taste of that bud so I want more.
Funny story, I've had such a clumsy beginning to this grow. I dropped the one on the right once and the one on the left TWICE. In a panic, I popped the 3rd seed in case one of these two didn't make it. Luckily with a little support they both bounced back.
The smallest one still in rockwool comes from a Juicy Fruit seed. I'm debating if I should buy a net cup to setup a 3rd bucket or put it in a pot of coco. Thoughts?

Out of these three I'm hoping for two girls. If I get 1 I'll still be happy, but if I get 3 I'll be a little stressed, but still very happy. I only plan on vegging them for 2 weeks from germination due to my space constraints as well as the fact that I'm moving in about 3 months, just enough time for one more grow.

I plan on documenting this whole grow so I hope you enjoy and join me for this ride.

Finally an update. I was going to do an update on the seedlings but I figured it may be best just to wait a give the plants more time before the photo shoot.

The plants are around 3 weeks old in total and are on day 5 of flower. I've been having a few issues that have shown themselves on the yellowing leaves and rust spots.

Farthest left is Lavender Jones #1, farthest right is Lavender Jones #2, and the middle is the Juicy Fruit.

So I read somewhere that LEDs are more effective in higher temperatures around the 82F range. Well I tried that for a while and the plants seemed to like it but after their second/third set of leaves they started getting sad. We're now back to 76F and they're looking better.
I realize I did the classic "I'm gunna overfeed and put the lights super close to make em grow faster" mistake. Overall my plants looked limey yellow, had a few rust spots, and were just growing slower than they should have so hopefully they'll pick up soon.
My PPMs were too high in the 450 range, so now I put em around 350 and they're doing better.

LJ #1 is an indica dom pheno: short distance between nodes and broad leaves.
LJ #2 is a sative dom pheno: a little more stretchy and thinner leaf blades.
JF honestly looks great, it's been vigorous since day one and has a root ball comparable to LJ#2

Hey there friends! We're back!

So life happened and I wasn't able to start giving the regular updates I wanted. I've had a lot of problems along the way that I could not figure out for the life of me. Turns out it was a combination of dirty hydroton, too much light, and too many nutrients all at different times.
Good news is everything is happy and healthy now, the bad news is even though I've had them on 12/12, they didn't start flowering until just a few days ago due to the issues I was having. At this point they are too big to have 3 in my humble tent so I'm going to cull the weakest LJ #2 (shown in the middle above)

Here are a few pics I snagged before lights out. The first is the Juicy Fruit, the second is Lavender Jones #1

Hello friends!

Hope you all are doing well, we've just been chuggin along over here. It's about week 4 now and the ladies are lookin great. Got some nice early trichome development as the buds are starting to get bigger and bigger.
20160707_085255.jpg

On the left is the Juicy Fruit. She's lookin a little yellow because of some pH problems. The bucket I have her in is too small and she's drinkin up half of the container in a day. I left it for one night and the pH went threw the roof so I'm workin on the next size up.

On the right is the Lavender Jones. She's lookin nice and green and healthy. Her bud structure is much more spread out and "popcorny", whereas the JF has one big cola and many small ones, but I like it. It looks like this one is a little behind the JF in terms of finishing times.

I've noticed that most if not all of my stems are red. I know this can mean a N deficiency, but it can also be genetics right? I'm using Dyna-Bloom so I have little control over the amount of N specifically they are receiving. I tried topping of the buckets with water and fresh nutes but the stems haven't shown any change. It's probably fine yeah?

Side note, if anyone could give me tips on how to take better pics of my ladies, please tell me. I struggle with finding the best angles to get the clearest shot.

Cheers

Looking good! In regards to the ladies, what I always do is keep the camera steady and focus on one cola so you can get a food idea of this they look

Very nice. I'm putting together a tent almost identical to yours in size, also with cxb cobs.

Question: What are you using intake and ventilation fans? Is your exhaust fan enough in terms of fans?

Sweet man, can't wait to see your setup.
I have a Ventech 4" Inline fan with a speed controller for my exhaust. I don't use an intake fan, the Ventech inline fan is strong enough to create negative pressure in the tent with a passive intake. With the speed controller, I run the fan at a little under 50%. If I go higher than that, my tent sucks in too much and cuts down on a lot of the horizontal space I have in the tent.

what are you running those cxb3070s on? did i miss that?
Hey there I've got em sitting on 4 CPU coolers (Arctic Alpine 64 GT Rev. 2). I don't remember the exact driver and my lights are off so I can't check right this second, but I know it's an HLG. I got it after watching some of Growmau5's videos on youtube.

Hello friends,

Here we are at week 5. Looking at the canopy it's nice to see the JF has new growth that matches the dark green of the LJ. Fixed my pH fluctuations and actually dimmed the lights a bit, I think I was getting some yellowing on the top buds from light burn.20160715_084905.jpg

This is the LJ, I'm hoping the top cola fattens up, it's lookin pretty skinny now. Then again, I'm not exactly sure what day of flower we're on so she may have lots of time to swell.
LJ1.jpg LJ2.jpg

I took a few more pictures of the JF. The buds are a bit more swollen and photogenic than the LJ. Maybe she's a bit farther ahead in flower. I love the shape of this plant. The main cola is chunky and LST allowed the lower nugs to get their share of light helping them chunk up.

It looks like the juicy fruit is almost done, maybe a week or so left I'd say. Maybe you guys can help me out, does it looks like my plants are getting too much light? I don't see any bleaching but the leaves are yellowing at the top and the top cola is fox tailing (same on the lavender).
JF1.jpg JF2.jpg

I know I'm impatient but I'm still not seeing the top cola of my lavender fattening up. Am I pushing it too hard with light? I've dimmed my lights but I'm still seeing these limey yellow new leaves.
LJ1.jpg LJ2.jpg LJ3.jpg LJ6.jpg

Also, I'm having some high humidity concerns. I have a small dehumidifier and a bucket of damp-rid in the tent but I'm still sitting around 55-70% which is no bueno. Any suggestions for small scale dehumidification?

Cheers

if the air outside your tent or room is less humid than the air inside your tent or room, then you can increase the air flow into the room by turning up your fan controller (if you have one). The last couple of weeks are hard to keep them from making the room higher in rh because they just transpire so damn much. and fuck damp rid, worse $20 i ever spent.

Nope, humidity is the same as outside of the tent. I just wish they made a small "functional" dehumidifier. Yeah I haven't noticed any difference with the damprid so I'll be sure to save my money next time

Week 7:
20160726_103830 (800x450).jpg

I believe we have one week left before we chop em down.
I'm getting some yellowing tips on the top colas, is this due to too much light? Should I dim my lights? They're as high up as they can go.
