Hey this is my 2nd indoor grow, got 9 plants on the go most are still seedlings there all roughly 3 - 4 weeks. Growing with 1 48w cfl, 2 28w cfls, and 1 23w. using some random soil from bunnings and for nutes im using nitrosol liquid organic blood and bone... anyone got any tips on my setup or anything i could improve?

You've got some great growth there. Do you know the strains? I checked out your first grow--plant looked great!

If I could make a few suggestions based on your pics (not to say you aren't already planning on doing this stuff)...

Perhaps grab a temp/humidity monitor. Low 80's, high 70's; 30-60% humidity is ideal. Also, when you transfer your babies into larger pots, I would add perlite to the soil for sure. Adding it now wouldn't hurt either, just be gentle. Perlite helps drainage and nutrient/water distribution. It also tremendously aids you in your watering schedule. It's important to have a good watering schedule, especially when you start working with larger pots. Without perlite, your soil will take too long to dry out and it will dry inconsistently. You want your soil to dry out over a period of about 5 days--then water, using distilled water (found @ Walmart). I would suggest putting anywhere from 20-40% perlite in your pots. Throw the soil in there and mix it all together like a salad.

I see you have 127 watts total. I have about 200 watts on 1 plant. If you can grab an 85 watt full spectrum CFL (5500k) on Amazon, you will not regret it.
Here are a few--I got the Square Pefect:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001MIGLZW/ref=s9_simh_gw_p23_d0_i1?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_r=0ZH5NJ9652AWSMFWYC9S&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=470938631&pf_rd_i=507846

You said you're using random soil. Have you noticed any bugs?

That's all I got man. Lookin' good! Check out my first grow if you get a chance. You're a few weeks ahead of me with some of those plants.

Those are looking amazing! chill on the nutes for now though, they have a little burn.
Their way to early for that even if its chemicals or organic!

Found out i can buy a 600w hps off a mate 2morow, should i swap the lights and use the hps? or would it grow quicker with the cfls having the right spectrem... anyone?

My suggestion would be to switch to the 600watt during flowering. Maybe add some more cfl 2700k wattage to the mix until then.

Ok, I just looked back at what I wrote... when I said to add some more CFL bulbs with a 2700k color temp, I meant that you want to stick with primarily 5500k+ CFL's during vegging, but a few 2700k bulbs mixed in will benefit. When you start flowering, swap to the 600w HPS. Do the best you can to control the temp once you start using the HPS.

5500k+ and MH bulbs = blue light spectrum (primarily for vegging)
2700k and HPS bulbs = red light spectrum (primarily for flowering)

Mixing has great benefits.

Vegging light ratio (red:blue) = 1:3
Flowering light ratio (red:blue) = 2:1

I say 1:3 for vegging because some people argue that the plant absorbs such a small amount of red light during vegging that 2700k isn't necessary at all. If you have all 5500k full spectrum CFLs for vegging, then you probably have enough red light to suffice. Personally, I mix in a 2700k CFL during vegging.

im aware of all that, at the start i had 1 2700k 48w in there but it seemed to hot, the soil would dry to quick and all the leaves where real yellow then i got rid of it an now they growin... i couldnt help myself had to put the hps up... reppotted most of the plant ill post some more pics today...

I should have assumed you already knew all that before I wrote that long post lol.

Before, when the soil was drying out w/ the 2700k... was it drying out all the way through or just at the top?

Nice setup with the HPS. I'm at 27 days on my first grow and yours all seem a bit bigger; or most of them do at least. Mine was stressed out early on so the growth stunted a bit. If everything else looks fine, but it seems like they've slowed down, then I would assume it's the change in lighting that could be stunting growth.

If you can get a few 42w or higher 5500k-6500k CFL's a few inches above them it will aid your vegging process. Seems like they want more blue spectrum in their lives.

Also, how long do you turn your lights off every day?

i figured out they where just root bound, didnt no what i was thinking leaving them in a tiny pot for a month, i relized the plants werent growing but the roots were... and a bit of the bottom roots were a bit brown from over watering when i transplanted them....

Well I had all 2700k CFL's on my plant early on. It grew, but very slowly. As soon as I threw on a bunch of 5000k+ CFL's, it started really exploding in growth.

I mean overall, it just needs light. It sounds like you got to the root of the problem anyway. No pun intended.
