2x5x8 grow closet

I want to set up a grow in my spare room closet. I am seeking any and all advise from the many knowledgeable members here. I have already invested in 4 books and 2 videos and none contain the specific info I seek before I can get started. What would be the best lighting to use? I would put a shelf in the closet to make a veg and a flowering chamber. So the lower veg chamber would be about three feet high and the flowering chamber would be about 5 feet high. But the closet is narrow depth and wide width. So should I get 2 smaller wattage lights or would one, say, 600 watter be good? And what lights would work best for the veg chamber? Can anyone recommend a good compact hydroponic system for my closet? Preferrably one I can build myself. Thanks. Any advise is greatly apprerciated.
