Ive HEARD that with purple strains its good because the 3 days of dark reduces heat and causes the plant to turn more purple. Prob. bs but who knows.

I say look at mother nature there is no 3 days of darkness b4 harvest

its becuz during dark is when the plant drops water and nutrients down the stems to the roots and durimg light time it draws water and nutes up and out to buds. so leaving the lights off will help dry out the buds and stems b4 harvest

you must be talking bout outdoor growing. cuz ive heard many ppl do that b4 harvesting.

No I beleive hes probly taking about MOTHER Nature, another words was the cannabis plant ment to be put into darkness for 3 days, No it wasnt, this being said man has already altered the plant quite a bit and I feel anything that increases quality is ok by me, even if it is un natural since almost every aspect of growing in this day and age is un-natural.

but really its not about what is rite or wrong, everyone has there own method and if it works why change it...

I have never heard of this method but it does make sense because it does take the nutes back down to the roots, but more important to acomplish this is just let the soil thoroughly dry out and this draws out best, with the lights on so it continues to use up all its stored energy..

What I have herd alot is to give them 72 hours of darkness to induce flowering quicker, I have tried this and it does work well, it doesnt cut your flower time down at all tho and it makes the plant start flowering a week or 2 earlier, So I stopped using it just cus I like taking advantage of the stretch and like the pre flower veg but once again everyone likes there own method:bigjoint:

Anyway. People put it in darkness for a few days prior to cutting, because it's thought to increase trichomes. Since light destroys the trichs, it's believed that a couple days in the dark will allow them to build up before harvesting.:peace:

Thats ridiculous and very false.

Trichomes are a result of Nutrients and light and can also be caused by UVb light cause the cannabis is defending itself.

So since Both of these only happen during the light period(the plant does nothing productive during the night cycle) then this is false. Yes trichomes are better preverved in darkness but this is after the plant no longer lives..

...and I didn't say it was true or false, I said that's the reason people are doing it. ;-)

A discussion on flushing brought up the idea that the whole "3 days of darkness" concept is actually meant to force the plant into cannibalizing itself, using up all the extra nutrients found in the plant so it won't end up in the final product.

Of course there was no proof that this was actually the case, it was just the hypothesis from one poster.

It’s suggested to flower (12 hour light) this cannabis variety for 8 weeks, but 10 weeks will really give you the crystals you are after. Try to turn the lights off altogether the final 2 weeks of the flowering cycle- or at least down to 8 hours. This keeps the flowers from re-growth and stresses the plant into giving up its last drop of goodness as crystal to protect the flower! The buds have so much THC on them that it is hard to see them at all.

The Plant doesnt use up anything in the dark, to use the nutes up it need to photosynthesize. although it could definetly aid in the draining of the plant since dark period does make the plant leach the water down back into the roots.

I say if you have the space/time to do it for 3 days, why not, cant hurt, I always harvest at the end of my night cycle so the plant doesnt start trying to pull nutes up right before I harvest.

i do 3 days of darkness prior to harvest. i saw definte improvment in crystal production with the 72 hours of darkness vs the 24 hrs i used on the same strain i harvested 3 weeks before
