Hi everyone, Closet Cult is back with a latest grow. Some of you may remember my previous grow but the pics are down. In this grow I converted an old Armoire and rigged up an air-cooled 400W HPS. It is a 'sealed' environment: meaning I did not exchange the air during the 'lights on" periods. Instead I pumped CO2 in continuously and had fans running to circulate the air, and only exchanged the air for a few hours during the 'lights off" periods.
I ordered Nirvana's Feminized Ice, popped 'em and dropped 'em into a homemade DWC bucket with bubbleponics irrigation tubes for the first couple of months.
I used the BC recipe for success starter kit consisting of: BC Bloom, boost, grow/flower, thrive alive and awesome blossom. I followed the recipes, but found that I could increase to 2000 PPM easily with Ice.
They grew super fast and strong but took 12 weeks(!) to finish flowering. Plus another 3 weeks, to let the bottom growth mature, for a staggered harvest.

Back of armiore: Notice the air intake at the bottom for the growspace. A bathroom fan at the top of the space turned on twice during the 'lights off' period to vent the space.
The air-cooled lamp is fed and exhausted thru those dark square openings. The inside of those openings are lined with charcoal fiber paper to control light leaks. The air pump hose can be seen snaking down and entering the growspace at about the center of the armiore. And the CO2 hose snakes up and plugs into the space at about the middle, and is covered with black plastic for light leaks.

CO2 production with a yeast and sugar water. To aid production and distribution, I added a water heater for the proper temperature of the strains I was using, and an air pump to feed a bit of oxygen to the yeast twice a day, as well as help build pressure in the bucket to force the CO2 up the line and into my grow space. It worked great for me.
Mostly, I used champagne yeast with nutrients added. Two yeast packets, nutes and 8 lbs. of sugar will last approximately two weeks.
But near the end of the flowering cycle I switched to 'super yeast'. 18 lbs. of sugar is eaten up by these micro organisms in less then a week!
CO2 production can be monitored by a standard brewer's tool. Fill it with water or alcohol and it bubbles when CO2 pressure forces the gas out. Super yeast produces constant, vigorous bubbling for 5 to 6 days.

I have never grown hydro before. So, I kept one control subject, planted in organic soil to compare size and yield of DWC.
About three weeks old
Irrigation tubes fed right over the hydrocorn. Next time I will feed the tubes lower, under the corn. I lost one plant to stalk rot which I suspect was from the constant water splashing.
I begin LST training at 3 1/2 weeks and don't quit the entire grow.

12/12 flower light cycle at 6 weeks old
10 days into flowering, the plants are hard trimmed to remove excess leaves and branches.
4 weeks into flowering, another hard trim. I know many people hate to trim their girls, but they are growing so profuse in this environment that I have to ensure good light penetration and air circulation to prevent mold. The fact is, these girls replaced every leaf I removed with a new one with a week. I had to trim hard at least twice a month to keep the jungle under control and maintain a breezy environment.

Wow! What a journey! 21 weeks from start to finish. Longer than I expected but many have had the same experience with Nirvana's Ice. I got 5 ounces total. The smoke is fantastic. One plant in particular is a one hit weed! A real knockout! Unfortunately, it is mixed in with the rest of them so I never know when I'm going to get killed! But the rest is a one bowl weed. A very nice hit, to be sure.
One plant had bad genetics. Its root system took weeks to develop past the mesh container and its stalk was never more then the soil control plant. Plus, I lost one plant due to the stalk rot. So, If I had had those two fully functional I believe I could have gotten another ounce at least.
