MY BIGGEST QUESTION: Should I hang the 80x3wLED NEXT to the HPS to flower more plants, OR use it as supplemental lighting for the plants already under the 600w HPS? THANKS!
Hey Everyone, this is my first time growing indoors and, posting although I've been reading these forums since I was a teenager about 10 years ago. I recently moved to CA and am now legally allowed to grow, So I've been having a great time but am still getting the hang of things.
The grow area: is 3ft deep, 7ft long, and the ceilings are 9-10 ft high. I have a 600w HPS hung in the middle of the room right now, and have a 80x30w LED arriving tomorrow. I also ordered 2 reptile (zilla 10.0) lights that emit 10%uvb light as I have read that this helps increase resin production. The 600w is air-cooled and completely contained, with a 4inch hurricane inline fan drawing in outside air through the enclosed glass reflectorand exhausting it back out of the room. I also have another 4inch, 190cfm inline fan which draws the growroom air through a carbon filter and then exhausts that air out of the room, it is on a timer for 45mins on, 15 off, except when I foliar feed and then i leave it on for 3 days just to be safe from mold. I also run an osciallating fan 24/7 on the plants, and add an additional 12 inch fan to increase circulation when I foliar feed. My lights are on at night, so the air that is drawn from outside to cool the light is usually 50-60 degrees, (i live in venice, ca), which serves to cool it pretty well, and my temp in the room is a consisten 78 degrees. Despite the carbon filter, my apt still stinks of nug but I dont really care, my landlord knows, its legal etc.
I also covered most of the walls with black/white poly.
The plants have been flowering for 42 days, i got them as large teens (about 24inches, in 1 gallon containers, and transplanted them to 3gal containers. they are in a 60/mix of coco and perlite. I burned them by over fertilizing in the beginning (forgetting that less can be more in that dept). I am using botanicare pure bloom @ 15-25ml/gal, Liquid Karma @10-15ml/gal, CalMag @ 5ml/gal, Bud Candy @ ~8ml/gal, Purple Maxx @ 1-1.5tsp/gal, SnowStorm Ultra @ 1 tsp/gal, and just received Gravity (flower hardener) which I plan on applying sometime in the next week @ 1tsp/gal, trying to decide whether to foliar feed it or regularly feed it. I also foliar with Purple Maxx and Snowstorm Ultra @ 1tsp each/gal, and use about 1 litre of this mix for all 6 plants combined, once a week. I have primarily used dechlorinated tap water, and ph it to around 6-6.5 (i use one of those cheap ph test kits with the color code and dropper), and i just bought one of the 5gallon refillable water containers so I can use that water. The 3gal containers each sit on top of a 5gal homer bucket turned upside down.

2 Purple Death Stars (Purps x Sour D x Sensi Star)

1 Boss Hog (Chem4 in cross)
1 Skywalker (picked up this little clone seperately from the others and threw it into the flower room, it was only about 5 inches tall, there were 2 of them and one shriveled up and died so maybe this wasnt the best idea, just wanted to see what would happen. The one thats left looks ok, not great, the new growth is somewhat twisted, but its sprouted the female pistils and has been in there for 9 days as of today so we'll see, I hope she makes it!
My Opinion
The Lemon Sour D is by far the best smelling out of all of the plants, she reeks of tangerine/sour d goodness, the aroma is amazing, but she was weak and I was stupid and broke off a couple of branches by mistake so the yield will not be as good as I hoped
probably about 1 - 1.5 oz.The PDS are good, they smell good and have decent buds, hoping to yield about 2oz each, prob wont run them again as theres nothing super special about them as far as i can tell, ive never really liked sensi star to begin with, maybe thats why.
The Boss Hog is by far and away the best performing plant, it was lanky to start but exploded with buds, didnt burn half as bad as the others, the buds are spongy and sticky and moist, and covered in trichs. it has a great smell too, its the only plant that is not on a homer bucket and is still about the same height as the others, i love this plant and will prob run mostly these in my next crop. it was a f1 clone and i dont think the others were, could this explain it? or is it bc chemdawg genetically can handle heavy nutes so it didnt get stunted/burnt like the others? could easily see getting 3+ oz of this lady.
The Church is nice but small as well, has a good smell, prob wont run again unless the finished product is great. expecting 1-2oz
The Purple Elephant is the second biggest plant, with lots of nice purple buds, but they used to smell a lot more and now they dont as much, it also has considerably less crystals than any of the other plants...any idea why? shitty genetics? cuz its a purple cross? i dont know what happened to it, maybe its cuz i burnt it. looks like ill still get a couple oz of it, maybe 2-3.

ALSO, being from NYC, I miss TRUE Sour D, the kind where .5g will reek up an entire house with that unforgettable sour STANK, and leaves a lingering, lip smacking citrus/sour taste. Since moving to CA, I've tried ~15-20 different versions of "sour diesel", but none of them have been that REAL DEAL Sour, any suggestions?
