Hi People,

I have a really neebie question for you. I have 1 of those cheap 65W Grow lights that you can buy anwhere and a few 60w CFLs. Curretnly I am using the CFLs on the bottom and sides of the plants with the cheap growlight on top about 4 inches away from the plant.
Is this ok? Or should I have the CFL on top and use the cheapo grow light on the sides or bottom so everypart of the plant gets llight?

Thanks

Some people cant afford to run HPS lights or are growing where HPS lights arnt suitable, like if ventilation is an issue, they run too hot imo. Im using cfl's (250watt envirolight) and my plants have been growing really quick and developing nicely, its just an issue when u come to flower apparently, if u use cfl's during flowering youll get whats known as popcorn buds (lights and airy). If u want to use cfl's thats fine, but id invest in a more powerfull one (250watt) with a reflector and try and either use photofilm or tin foil so it reflects around the plant or mouint a few cfl's round the bottom of the plant facing upwards towards it, when the plant gets bigger the lights round the bottom will really help it out as the bigger top leaves block out the light for the lower leaves and when its flowering the lower buds become underdeveloped because of lack of light, this is also where pruning comes into play lol. Just remember, more light more yield :)

enviros are good, i use two 125w eco-lites for veg and a 600 hps with a cooltube which solves the heat issues, but enviros cannot come anywhere near a hps.

Hi. I myself am using just a 60w cfl to grow a small plant. If ur like me and have no room for a hps or cannot faciltate 1 then cfl's are best ,for cost more than anything. I started veg stage under a 15w and gradually added more before I switched to 12/12. My plant is in soil( asda pro compost) and am feeding with tom feed ,and I'm getting fairly decent results since using 60w and feeding my plant has doubled and am getting pretty densly packed bud. Try to focus the light as much as you can on the plant. With focusing the light you can use less cfls my plant looks very healthy and am pretty confident that in a few weeks ill be smoking and getting the next 1 into flower

This is what I'm doing and gettin results
U need 9 sheets of a4 white paper
A roll of tin foil or aluminum for u yanks lol
Sticky tape ,scissors , cfl 's and a cpu fan
Stick ur sheets of a4 3 x3 ,roll out ur tin foil and stick it shiny side up to ur big sheet of paper
Roll it up into a tube and let it relax into a bigger tube , u can have it as big or small as you want ,mines this size cause my plant is being grown small , cut out a section at the top for your lights to fit and 1 for your fan( Mines just below my lights). Fix ur lights on the inside of ur wardrobe or chosen place to grow about 2 thirds of the way up the length of ur "tube". Cut into the top down. Few inches and stop just before you reach light level ,cut several times around the top of ur tube. The flaps can then be folded down so they form a roof kinda(this is ur top reflector) fit ur fan mines strung up and hung at the same hight as the hole cut for the fan and there you go easy cheap grow enviroment for a single plant , I am using 60watts and don't need anymore as the tube focus's the light enough. My plant is sat on some of my barbell wieghts as the are round and as my plant gets bigger obv they will be removed 1 by 1. U can add more lights in the bottom when ur plant needs it but that won't be untill its at least a foot hight and bushy. , would like to hear thoughts on this technique as it is an idea I had and theoretically viable way of growing
