A little light entering the dwc bucket...

I am just wondering if a LITTLE bit of light entering the dwc bucket is ok? I know it can cause mold etc.. The lid I made doesnt fit completely flush with the top of the bucket, its made of wood, and is slighty, slightly warped. It has about and inch over-hang on the bucket too. maybe i'm being a little parnoid but i just started them in the buckets. O and the bucket itselft is completely light proof... What do you guys think?

light encourages algae which will not attack your plants directly, but will eat a bit of the nutes possibly throwing off the water chemistry. It may bloom and change the PH, clog air stones and roots, and attract fungus gnats. The more light the more the algae will thrive, so a tiny bit of light will probably amount to a tiny bit of algae, which is tolerable. The only way to know for sure is to keep an eye on it and see. Overall it's best to be 100% light proof, but algae is normally not a huge concern unless it's out of control.

That isn't to suggest that your water quality isn't a concern; it is probably the biggest. Keep an eye on your roots to make sure they stay nice and healthy. Practice proper res maintenance because in a DWC, root problems are much easier to prevent than to cure.

if light can enter so can pests,I dont think wood is a good idea, its only going to warp more and if its plywood it will delaminate over time,I would try to find something a little better than wood.you can get 2'' styrafoam insulation at lowes or home depot for a few bucks, they will even cut for you so it will fit in your car. good luck
