I have noticed there is a lot of talk of UVB lights specially Reptile lights being used for grow. Well currently i am doing outdoor well pretty much both since it is so early nor cal but with this weather lately man going to be a good year i know it. anyway i have a bearded dragon and quiet the setup for him as well with a solar glo 125 watt self ballast UVA UVB light white oh man is it white glows just like a 1000 watt HPS light number also a fluorescent tube uvb light that is like 25 watts and a 125 watt red heat light 1. was how can i find out how many lumens the 125 solar glo puts out i looked around with no result. 2. If i am using the nature all day sun for about 13-14 hours for daylight and then stuck them under the reptile light for another could hours would the shock and stress make it not worth it or is it worth a little experiment to try and put a couple seedlings like 2 inches tall under the light and see what happens any experience in this. I would love to just have a sweet indoor setup as well but you know money is an issue right now. And i am really curious how these plants act with the high uvb light. From what i read there is little of who has tried with the uvb's other then flowing?
so whould i experiment or any facts out there?

ok, well heat = infrared energy, the opposite side of the visible spectrum from UV. So don't use the heat lamp.

The way i understand UV light to be beneficial to growing is that it increases THC production during flowering. I don't think it'll do you much good during veg, but no harm in it i suppose...

Still taking all suggestions, i am going to take one of my seedlings and put her under the 125watt uva, uvb, for an extra 2 hours a day and record observations compared to the others that won't be getting that extra 2 hours. I will make sure to not have infrared. I have temps everywhere and it gets over 100 with that on easy. they are all about an inch and shooting leaves out like they can;t wait for harvest either.

Controlled studies have showed that in some drug-type Cannabis higher doses of UVB is correlated with elevated Delta-9-THC levels. No other cannabinoid levels are altered, and we don't know how important D-9-THC alone is in terms of potency, recent research suggests that the other cannabinoids may be as or nearly as important. Most likely, some strains will be much more responsive than others to UVB treatment. A cursory review of the larger body of current literature on marijuana flowering and potency suggests that the other more well known factors are more important (sex, light, temperature, genetics to name a few.) You don't have much to lose by UVB supplementation (except possible burning if you overexpose them) but lights aren't so cheap and there may not be much effect.

I posted some links in Al's thread in the hydro forum a couple days ago, if you want to track that down. There's also a decent section on UVB in Tom Flowers' Marijuana Flower Forcing, which is a good book to have in general.

how far away from the uvb? I've noticed the plants will burn from overexposure. be real careful not to get em too close... that's a big problem figuring out how far away to place the bulb to allow the plant to use the uv effectively.. I heard uv rays diminish fast, so like 4-5 inches away is max...
