I'm a total noob, and this is my first grow, ive got a couple of plants growing and they are about 4-8 inches and its about day 5 in soil...

so if im using a regular light bulb from about a foot away whats the problem with that?

i cant get the right bulbs until the weekend maybe, and the sprouts look pretty healthy with just using the regular bulb... so it would be best to get a metal halide bulb and then after vegatation get an HPS?

and will using the normal bulb effect the plant for the next 5 days? like putting the light on does make a difference right?

Yes it does make a difference- the normal wavelength of light that incandescents is not really usable by plants, so you will never get any good growth from that type of light- i would recommend in the meantime replacing that bulb with a CFL(the curly bulbs) the coolwhite type would be way better than the average light bulb.
