Activated Carbon Filter (Wtf?)

I bought a carbon filter, the long and skinny kind, that has one end with a flange of like 4 inches or something and the other end is capped with a strong-stuck white block with four small indented holes that don't go all the way through. It's been sitting in the basement for awhile because I just don't know how to hook it up. Am I suppose to remove that white cap or what? It came with no instructions, wtf.

ALso there is a can-filter 50 with the same sort of deal. Except it's flange isn't even screwed onto the filter. Wtf.

You can buy them more than one way, parts to complete would be available at your hydro shop. The one with the block would be hooked up with the fan pulling air out of the flanged end. The air has to be 'pulled' through the carbon filter.
A good source for this kind of information is a product catalog. I picked up one at my hydro shop. I can order anything in that catalog and wait for it to get to them, usually less than a week, and avoid shipping charges. VV

Check my sig for a DIY filter.. I'm using two of those in the future. One on the intake of the exhaust fan in the room and one of the exhaust end of the fan outsie the room. Less than $30 for both.. and the new filter is $10 and it makes two.. so realy $5 fper filter.

Check it out.
