Activated charcoal

Of course it's good. It can sequester carbon from the atmosphere for pretty long periods of time compared to their non-charcoal counterparts. It can help maybe a little bit in the fight against increasing CO2 causing climate change if it were done on a wide scale.

Apart from that it can help with drainage and has nutrient holding capacity that increases the "effective CEC" of your soil, especially in highly calciferous soils like you see in the tropics. I had the opportunity to see them making it from rice hulls in Philippines, and it was really cool.

and then there is activated carbon charcoal that is used for air filtration. I have both kinds in unlabeled storage. Hope I put the right one in my soil.
