Add back just water or nutes and water?

Newbie here,

I have 4 plants vegging under 1000 hps in multiflow hydro bucket system, similar to ebb and grow. Plants are 14" and are sucking up the nutes.

I set res to 775, and three days later after topping off with water they are at 620.

I plan on bumping them up to around 950-1000 at the next res change in 4 days, but they will prob have much lower ppm by then so should I add back nutes before the next res change? They are growing great but do look like they could use more nutes. Sry no pics.

People go both ways. There's nothing wrong with bumping up the nutes mid week.

You really dont need a 2.0ec reading in vegging keep it at about 450-675 never have to go over that and that's about .9-1.3ec. never a chance of nute burn and with still that high of a ec your plants will be more then happy.

675 tops in veg? Even if the plants are going to be 2' before I flip them?

My nute chart says to take them to 1100 in veg?

I dont top my Ebb/Gro rez with anything unless the PPMs start to creep up, in which case I will top with water and re-adjust the pH to stay in spec. I can usually go about 8-9 days before the res gets too low to complete a flood cycle. Adding fresh nutes to an existing reservoir can cause problems. Micros like Zinc and Boron can build up to toxic levels very quickly. The plant only uses them in very small amounts, so adding more into the mix before changing your rez can totally screw your nutrient balance.

Check out Mulder's chart on nutrient interaction. THe thick lines indicate synergism, while the thin lines show antagonism. Notice how calcium antagonizes just about everything. Too much of that in your nutrient solution and you are going to have a bunch of false micronute deficiencies....
