Adding lights to my Greenhouse

I'm going to start a small 6x6x12 greenhouse grow in So. Cal. From the info I've gotten from High Times, I need to add lights for the short months. They said for the best cycles use HID. I thought the heat might be an advantage. Or would you use some thing else? Anyone have experience with this?

Cfls work just fine... The sun will do most of the work
