AeroGardens....Worth The Hype?

The reason I ask the question is...they are pretty small. And they are pretty expensive as well.

How many plants can that thing handle? And isnt it kind of a waste if you're growing undersized plants?

I really could be wrong...but thats why Im asking the question. For that price...quite a few DWC Tubs could be built. So why pay so much to yield so little?

I think its definitely a newbie thing. The fact that it's self contained and come with timer and lights is a plus. After you have grown out of it it should make a nice small cloning machine. 2 plants max though i cant see why you can't grow sog in it and therefore not have stunted plants. Obviously you would have to get some better flowering lights and remove the hood. I got one and it got me going, but now i wish i had have built my own for a fraction of the price.

For $40...I made 6 pot bubbler.

For the price of the AG I could make 3 (room enough for 18 full sized plants) and still have money to buy nutes. So, yeah...probably good for starting out. But for the cost....I'd still suggest just making one. Its alot easier than you may think. All I needed toolwise was a sharp utilityblade and a bic lighter (heat the blade and makes cutting the holes simple).

SoG kinda depends on large numbers of small plants.

An aero system big enough to SoG in could be made out of a 3'x3' or 4'x4' flood tray with a sheet of plastic over the top and holes for netpots in the sheet.
