aeroponic timing

I have recently built an aeroponic system in a toat. I have 5in net pots filled with expanded clay with grodan rockwool in the middle. Im now trying to figure out how many times a day the system should come on and the duration for each run.

2 possible methods:

1. Run the system constantly.

2. Run the system in intervals
-- make sure roots are established--
During the day, I would run 15 min on 15 off.
At night I would run 15 on 45 off.

I have done both methods in an aeroflo and I noticed no notable difference.

If this is a true aeroponic system (the aeroflow is more of a hybrid) then you'll want to spray more often. I use 2 seconds on and 90 seconds off in my system.

If it's a hybrid then sublime's right and his experience matches my experience with hybrid systems.

Whats an hybrid system, mine is a 30g toat with 6 wholes cut out of the top with net pots. Then inside is a 400g an hour pump hooked up to a pvc pipe on both sides of the pots and also down the midle with 360 sprayers. Only use 6g of water for the res.

In a true aeroponic system ALL of the roots are going to be suspended in air only all the time. Since none of the roots will have direct contact with any standing solution they need to be sprayed more often particularily at warmer temps and higher light levels.

A hybrid system is really more of a combination of aeroponic and deep water culture. In other words, part of the roots (at least when they're longer) will be in a solution and part in the air. The huge advantage of this is that if you pump fail you don't loose the plant as long as some of the roots are in the solution.

Most all aero system being sold are hybrid systems.
