I just began studying indoor mj growing and I cant really understand the differend light types (I'm italian so it's harder for me to correctly translate terms like cfl, hps, mh and so on..)
I know the differences between hps and mh (the two HID light types, right?) buy I found strange lights like this:

http://www.hydroponics.eu/lighting-c-24/electro-box-kit-s-189/electronic-kit-600w-hps-sonlight-agro-600w-5019.html

It says that these types of light cover the whole color spectrum so they can be used in veg and flowering phases.. If this type of lights can really do this, why are we still talking about light swapping, cfl's, etc,? Why dont everyone use lights like the one above?

EDIT: i wanted to link the single light bulb not the whole kit:

Looks like a HPS to me, maybe a enhanced spectrum like hortilux sells.
Not 100% sure cant seam to find any info on what kelvin the light is.
It has a graph but my fried sleepy eyes cant make heads or tails of it right now.
But to me it looks like a HPS nothing more.

the cfl hps mh are just abbreviations.. here is a good read on lights and which best suit your grow needs broken down in lamens term. as far as the link you just posted is a HPS bulb ( high pressure sodium). from what I understand an hps bulb will suffice for a veg period but a MH (metal halide) is better for the veg state of your grow. the plants like a certain spectrum of light at different periods o the growth cycle. rule of thumb.. just because something WILL work does mean its the best option. as far as cfl (compact fluorescent light) its more of a low budget stealth grow setup. again it will get the job done but not necessarily the best option out there. give this a look http://www.growweedeasy.com/growing-marijuana-what-type-of-lights

yea its a HPS bulb, just with a bit different gasses/metal salt mix inside it, so it peak with a bit more in the blue spectrum (400-500nM)

but your still better off with a digital ballast that can run both MH and HPS if your going to use the light all grow/in veg

tho Im sure it would be a good flowering bulb for all of 12/12 but a MH bulb is still to prefer in Veg (and IMO first few weeks of 12/12)

in general and to keep it short, in veg the plant need a bigger majority of blue light to thrive wile it need a majority of red light in full bloom

but there is a lot more to it then that, one thing is that a MJ plant wont require more then 1/3 of the light in veg as in flowering to do good, why a lot of people do well with fluorescent light in veg as it strong enough, in flowering the fluorescent might not be as effective as a big HPS light and no matter what need to be very close to the plant/Buds to do good
