Air- Pot Club

Hey RIU!!,

I was looking around the site and noticed that there was no Air-Pot Club! These amazing pots train roots by Air Pruning which increases our plants ability to suck up nutrients and grow fast! If you havent already learned about these , well you need to read up, and if you have, Welcome to the club!

This is a thread to talk about anything having to do with air-pots. Feel free to post all comments, Pictures, Ect relating to the pot at hand.


Some Information

Superoots Air-Pots have unusual cuspated walls made up of closed inward pointing cones and open ended outward pointing cones. There are no flat surfaces on the inside of the container to deflect roots and start the spiralling process.
The inward pointing cones direct the roots further outward to the open ended cones where, because the air density in the soil is too great, the roots dehydrate and are effectively pruned.
The plant responds to this "air-pruning" by sending out more roots to compensate for the loss which leads to a dense root system with a vast number of active white tipped roots.
The porosity of the Air-Pot also creates better conditions for bacterial activity and thus increases the amount of nutrients available to the plant. With so much root right back to the stem, the root system is very efficient in its use of all the available water and nutrient. Plant vigour and health is therefore guaranteed.

Some people may need links for where to get these commercially. I know not all places are selling them yet. Ive heard of people getting 4-5 foot plants out of the 1 gallon. I got a bunch of different sizes but have actually considered using the 3 gallon to grow vegetables outside because im afraid my Blackjack hybrids will get out of control in one of these. Im not sure exactly what a narrow 7 gallon is. But keep in mind that these pots allow you to grow MUCH larger plants in MUCH smaller pots. if you can fit whatever your trying to transplant into a 5 gallon , thats probably the one for you. if you need a site to order off of let me know.

If you message the lady, she will answer any questions you have about the pots : ) . very nice people. i honestly think these may be the future of indoor growing. What they do makes so much sense ... it doesnt make any sense to use a standard pot when this kind of tech is available.

Hi! I am very interested in these pots, I have been looking for something revolutionary to go with for the past couple weeks. These look great! and I liked the video explanation on the web site. If it is true that a 1 gallon pot can have a decent size plant. I may opt to get a lot of those! I always wanted 3 gallon pots though, and they sell them for a good price! Can you please explain what you do on the bottom? I see some wood under there and plastic? I will be using a grow tent and I need to know what structure I will be placing under the pots. Thanks for the post and help brotha man

Edit: I bought two 2 gallon pots and two 3 gallon pots. Everything ended up costing only $30 so I am impressed. I am hoping to see very strong growth out of these pots. I am really liking the air pruning to the roots idea. Hope I can keep them from getting too big in these pots haha

can anyone explain to me how these could possibly be better than using a regular pot with holes in the bottom? *ok I think I might understand: so with a normal pot the roots hit the sides and start curling around and crap (limiting their ability to grow away from the plant when moved into a bigger pot), but these special pots cut them off when the hit the wall, thus making an upgrade to a larger pot more awesome because the roots can just continue growing away from the stalk easy?

Does anyone foresee possible problems with a plant putting too much more effort into growing new roots instead of vertical or bud growth? couldn't these pots just lead you to root restriction even fast than normal? Anyone see any cons to using these?

I used 5 Air-Pots amongst my last grow and I saw no difference when compared to regular 5 ltr pots. Size, yield, health of foliage, health of roots was all the same. They are also messy to water. I won't be using them again.

I've read some great testimonials on other forums that were backed up by comparison pictures (using clones putting some in these and the others in regulars and there is a big difference). Ok this is from some other guy that know what he's talking about:

"The main reason these pots are so good is they contain air pockets via the contours of the container, like an egg shell carton (where regular containers are flat sided). SO when a root hits an air space it it calluses off and then tells the 'mother' root system to produce more roots from the calloused point on the previous root. This egg shell shape means constant and exponential NEW root growth every time a root hits an air pocket and becomes calloused.

These pots claim to produce 30% greater root growth rates (I'd like to see trials) vs. any other type of container...this is called "air pruning" of the roots hairs.
Another bonus is these are made from RECYCLED milk jugs (HDPE) and you can reuse these pots for AT LEAST 5 YEARS!!! talk about environmentally friendly...one orchard grower uses them for 7 years!"

I learned about these pots a while ago and will eventually do my own side by side comparisons. I got a free mesh style grow bag from the hydro store, 5 gallon size, I am using it now and the plant is doing well. If anyone has links to side by side experiments with these things, that would be great. The concept sounds good, I am just wondering what the difference has been comparitively with standard pots. It seems like there aren't always enough actual side by side, documented, and controlled experiments when trying new grow products.

They come with a piece that goes across the bottom, but some of the gaps in it look fairly large, so it would be ideal to lay another something on top of it. Haven't heard of people having any issues with water and nutes pouring out the side. And Kappainf there is a link I put in my last post that will go to a nice thread on these pots, its from another forum though so I'm not sure its ok that i posted it there for everyone (is it?)

Well according to some testimonial I read, you may have to water more often because the soil can more easily dry out in a dry environment. The most prominent guy in the link in my older post experienced this (maybe watering once more a week), but the plants put in these pots also seemed to grow much faster and thus require a greater amount of nutrients. He never mentioned any problems with water/nutes pouring out the holes in the side (haven't seen anyone that has even though people ask).

I use these pots and waterdoes not shoo out the sides people , gravity makes things drop , not shoot side to side. the plants do grow faster , and require more nutrients ... duh . if they are growing faster ... of course they are going to need more nutrients? ill be posting progress with my grow soon.
