Hey you guys. I am new
To this forum, so first Off just wanna say hi! Nice to meet you all, and I'm hopeful you guys can help me out with my first grow since about 2001! I'm gonna be as descriptive and thorough as I can, when describing my situation, so here goes. My total current available grow space is a bedroom closet, 2 x 8 x 7, but I am currently only using a 2 x 2 x 2 foot section for vegging. I have a total of 8 seedlings. 1 Purple Kush seedling, and the rest seeds I got out of a bag of some good schwag. I have 2 65 watt 4100k (8400 lumens) CFL bulbs, 1 55 watt soft white 2700 k (3860 lumens) CFL bulb, and 3 23 watt daylight CFL bulbs (4800 lumens) for a total of 17,060 lumens for the 8 seedlings, which are now ten days old as of this morning. I have a small fan blowing over the sprouts And another larger fan that I use to cool the metal hoods I have the bulbs in, which actually do produce a decent amount of heat contrary to what people say about CFLs, "they do put out some heat" if you have enough in a small space. I am feeding distilled water until it runs out the bottom of the solo cups about every two days, or until the soil is dry about an inch down. I have the enclosure surrounded in reflective material and I cut out an air vent on the top of the enclosure. I have the seedlings under the lights 24/7 and keep them about 2 to 3 inches away from the tops. I am growing in an organic garden soil mix made especially for tomatoes. Contains worm castings, bat guano and all that good stuff, but no slow release nutrients as far as I know. I have the DWC box made and ready to use, but am unsure as to whether or not keep them in the soil or risk losing them by putting them in the DWC. I have a bottle of Alaska fish fertilizer. 5.1.1 and a box of MG all purpose plant food. What can I do to ensure these little babies get the nutrients they need, what am I doing right and what am I Doing wrong? They seem to be doing ok for ten days old, and aside from the purp kush seed being smaller than the others, they all look pretty healthy. Any suggestions would help tremendously! Thanks

I would switch to 18 hrs of light, not 24. Don't add nutes until your plants show they need them. I would recommend getting a nute brand more commonly used. I am a DynaGro guy myself.

You made no mention of exhaust, intake, or odor control. You will need to get a filter fan combo to exhaust and control odor. Passive intake is fine so long as you can make sure no light gets in during dark hours of flower.

You will need more light for flower. Lots of 2700K, surrounding and as close to the plant as possible. It gets tough to manage with CFLs as the plant stretched - you have to adjust the lights a lot to keep them right on the plant without touching it. Which is why I went LED...

Skip the distilled water - waste of money IMHO. Also sounds like you may be watering too often.

Good luck!

welcome to RIU. everything @GrowinDad said is right on-follow his advice. i agree with reducing your hours of light, sleep is important for them too. odor control is an issue you'll definitely need to address. before you start investing in a lot of CFLs for your grow, you might take a look at an 8-bulb T5 if LEDs are out of your budget. you could finish flowering under that with a few CFLs depending on how big you let your girls get in veg.

Thanks guys. I recently transplanted the seedlings in coco and they seem to be doing well. I will take your advice as far as the lights. Thanks for responding
