I really don't know that much about hydro, I mean Ive done lots & lots of research but until I got my Aerogarden a week ago Ive had no personal experience with it, that said, based on what I know oxygenating the water is key for a successful hydro system, I imagine that very tiny/fine bubbles would oxygenate the water better than bigger bubbles so in theory it should work better, however I know I heard somewhere that when the big bubbles get to the surface of the water and pop/burst they create a fine micro mist that sprays the roots above the water line keeping them moist, oxygenated and preventing air pruning and rot, again that said, I imaging you could just use a pump, tubing and sprayer system (micro-sprinklers, mister nozzles etc) with a micro bubbler and you should be fine. There might be something to this, I would really like to see some side by side comparison grows and see what happens, who knows maybe it works fantastic or maybe the micro bubbles cause problems with nutrients or PH, we won't know until someone try's it, I don't have the means or I totally would, however I can leave you with the words of Mahatma Gandhi, "You may never know what results come of your action, but if you do nothing there will be no result."
