i got spores from a friend and started some jars of substrate, made some casings.

these are small, yeah, but veils are open.... i don't think they're going to get too much bigger. hopefully the second flush will be better...

yeah make some spore sheets when ur harvesting, doit lol.... dont test em urself .. there easy to contaminate... im intrested to hear ur method.... ur precausions, meterials, area, i tried once, they turned blue and green mold , had to throw em out , i made the stupid mistake of watering them for some stupid reason from above, and keeping them in a closet with everyhting elese so they got infectd

well, i failed several times trying to produce jars of mycelium... i did whole brown rice, bird seed, corn, etc etc.... every time was the same; too much water in the grain.

so, i took out the cooking step. i soak the substrate in water for 24 hours, then soak in pre-boiled water for ten (as in pour boiling water over it in a bowl, don't bowl the substrate). then jar and pc for 90 minutes. since going this route i've had no contams. my flo hood is the oven rack (heat rises so nothing falls on or into the jar while inoculating). the jars are kept in clear plastic tubs, set next to a room heater (about 78-80f). fruiting chamber is a clear tote with plexiglass glued to the top for a window and holes plugged with poly fill. humidity is maintained by a 2'' layer of perlite and water/h2o2 at the bottom of the tote. i open twice a day and fan for fresh air exchange.

is there any particular place where spores are sold?

try the hawk's eye or any of the vendors on shroomery.org

For best fruit quality let the caps open and flatten out just before they go "A Wall" and start dropping bombs of spores.

For spores I recommend "ralpstersspores, sporeworks, thehawkseyes.

Don't get confused with spores101 with sporeworks. Completely different service. Sporeworks doesn't like ripping off people for overpriced "mushroom kits" ... Spores101 does and will. Also they're not a shroomery sponsor. If a sponsor gets more than 3 complaints he is OUT of the shroomery sponsors. Those are small mushrooms, lack of air exchange, moisture... looks like.

i'm not confused, only wanted to let others know about the shitty ones i got from spores101. really shitty results .

i have no way of measuring humidity atm, but i fan 2-3 times a day. the chamber has 12 holes in it, stuffed with polyfill, both top and bottom.

any suggestions? perhaps corn is the problem? these are from cracked corn jars, 50/50 peat/verm casing.

and yeah, 100 weighed 24 grams.... o.0

Yeah. Not spawning has poor results. Also cracked corn is the worst spawning material due to its huge kernal size limits the % of mycelium it produces. I can get 50% more mycelium from WBS/Rye jars. Also corn in general has the highest amount of bacterial endo spores than any other grain, but it does work, only if your spawning for best results to manure base substrates. Cased off with 50/50. There's no need for polyfill. Small holes drileld all over 1/8th inch holes with humidity at 99% if you're giving the optimal amount of air exchanges(3-5 per hour) is ideal. If you're not 80% humidity is ideal for cased fully colonized substrates.

humidity is guessed to be around 90%. i get water on the sides and lid every nite, nite temps are around 68, day temps right at 75....

i used corn because it was colonizing great when wbs was not (too much water, fucking doc's tek). i now have several wbs jars colonizing

Condensation on sides is for the most part not a sign of humidity. IT IS a sign of temperature differential. Docs WBS tek blows. If you don't believe me do a search on shroomery forums on it.

i believe you; i've done it . totally blows, substrate ends up way too wet, all seeds ruptured.

No, the air in the growing room should do that normally just with small 1/8th inch holes all over(unfiltered). You'll know exactly when to mist by picking it up and judging the weight. You can actually develop a very accurate way to do so. Mist it so it's glissening.
Mist 2-5 times a day, fan right after each mist(mist the inside sides as well). Since you're using perlite add 3-5 inches of well drained perlite meaning there should be 0 standing water. Your humidity lowers with the use of any water. Perlite in general holds and when air penetrates the water evaporates off creating humidity. Do that and results are golden.

You're better off spawning to manure, straw, coco coir, grass clippings, etc...Instead of just casing grain which is not even comparable unless it's Rye Berries.
