Might be bad seeds. How did you germ them? what are your temps?
i germed them untill the tap root was 1/4" long and planted them aboiut 1/2" below surface.
germed in wet paper towel in a warm dark closet

temps are around 79-82

Matbe its too hot inside the plastic bag chamber u use. or its too dry. Get rid of the bag over the top (ints not necessary, and we can rule that out as a problem) and soak that soil. Seeds can handle, and need a healthy amount of water to get going. Over watering a seed one time to get it above ground wont kill it, but under watering it will. Also u have to get the feel on how hard to press the seeds in. Too firm they wont be able to move, too soft and they wont get the root contact they need.
U dont need any light to get them out of the soil so u can turn that off until u get a sprout.
Dont give up, just keep practicing and u will definately get em going and then u can move on to the next disaster thats always awaiting us growers.

U can also wait for a inch long tap root and then plant it with the tip of the plant sticking out just above ground, when I do seeds I let them go even longer then that sometimes if they are being stubborn..

what bag are you talking about? i have them germed and in soil, i dont have bags... i was told that the lights should be placed close to the soil to get them to sprout... so i dont need to do this?

I thought u were using bags as a humidity dome, sorry. Light is not needed until the plant breaks soil, having no light will promote them to search for light and they will break ground a tad faster, but having a light on wont stop them from coming up so either way u want to do it is fine, but keep it backed off a lil.

maybe your putting the roots the wrong way up lol ? or your just to rough with them when putting them in soil...i cant really think what it would be except your temps everything else seems spot on. maybe your water's ph is way off ?

First of all, presoak your seeds in a glass filled with distilled water for about 24, in a dark place. Then, when you plant your seeds in the soil, water only once with distilled water until you can see water dripping off the bottom of your pots. It should take about 3-6 days until next watering depending on your pot's size. Don't even spray water, it can be much more devastating that it looks. Also, 1/2 inches in the soil might be a little too deep and too hard for them to grow up, though its definitely not the real factor here, and it will just make them germinate faster, try 1/4 inches, but make sure the seeds are well covered with soil and no light gets to them. Keep your lights on a 18/6 cycle, its enough. 168 W of cfl is WAY too much for seedlings. Overwatering

I just finished germinating 4 cheap purple widow seeds using 48W cfl and all of explained above. Took me 4 days, and they all germinated perfectly.
Remember to keep your baby's environment clean and in the right temperature! If you feel like it gets too dry too fast, then try making a simple dome just like I did here: https://www.rollitup.org/newbie-central/287200-improvised-propagator.html
Remember, hard work always pays off!
May the chill be with you! :joint:

ok so i put ziplock baggies over each of the pots(except my 2 larger pots) and knocked out all but one 42 watt daylight cfl, and already my temp has dropped by 3 degrees, i though cfls didnt give off much heat, hmmm... oh well hopefully all this helps. maybe i should quit using fish tank water and go with bottled

yeah try just tape water thats been sitting for a few hours and ph it to 6.7 u really dont need any lights on until the break the soil
