You'll get different opinions..........personally I prefer starting in solo cups and transplanting because it's easier to maintain the proper moisture content.
If you transplant properly, the plants won't skip a beat........I never have a problem.

I have started all my autos in starter pots and transplant them to 3 gallon pots when ready.

I assume you don't clean all your roots from soil and soak them in distilled water either?

I fit were common, it would just be called sense.
OP, I start auto's in their final pot but mostly because I hate transplanting with coco.
There are differing opinions but they're just that, opinions.
