Ok, so I am a legal medical patient growing Skunk#1. Three days after dropping seeds into pre-soaked 1.5" rockwool cubes, they have cracked, and broken through the surface. I have the baby sprouts sitting a comfortable 18 inches from two 2' HO 6500k T5 tubes; I originally had them at 24 inches, I am moving the lights closer gradually, daily. Now that the sprouts have reached upwards, and have a taproot poking through bottom of root cube, is it ok to plant in soil already? I will be using a 50/50 mix of FFOF and LW. I will be planting in a 12oz cup with four drainage holes. Plan on growing them in this container until week 3, when I will transplant them into a 1 gallon pot to grow for another month or so. Any suggestions and/or comments are much appreciated. Thanks.

Once you see green you can get those lights down to 6 inches and when you have the second set of leaves down to 1-2 inches. Keeping them too high will cause the plant to stretch toward the light.

blaze1camp,
I am extremely new as well, but I will attempt to answer your question. In Marijuana Horticulture, by Jorge Cervantes, he says "Roots soon hit the sides of containers where they grow down and mat up around the bottom. The unnatural enviroment inside the container often causes a thick layer of roots to grow alongside the container walls and bottom. This portion of the root zone is the most vulnerable to moisture and heat stress and is the most exposed." With that said, I believe if you don't transplant it a couple times at least, the root zone can be damaged, and/or your roots will not use all the available space to them. JC recommends 1 to 1.5 gallons of soil for each month the plant will spend in the container. 0-3 weeks rootcube, 2-6 weeks 4" pot, 6-8 weeks 2-gallon pot, 2-3 months 3-gallon pot, etc.. Of course this is all for ideal rapid plant growth; your results may very.

Ok Illegal Smile and growcheese, I will move them closer to the lights, they are pretty much all green on the tops. slk, is it best to transplant early in their daily light cycle? Or can I do it one hour before they go to bed like watering and feeding?
