Ballast question.

I have a outlet thermostat so that I can hook my lights up to a timer. But I don't know if I can hook my 400w MH light to the timer then to the ballast.
Would it be ok if I did?

Negative, you do not want your ballast to run continuously without the power being used.

put the timer on the plug, then plug the ballast to the timer.

I'm confused by the thermostat for the lights tho.. are you wanting the lights to turn on at low temperatures? thermostats are for temps. but i might have just read that wrong
