Well I had this going on another thread, but that is just too confusing, so I am making a thread dedicated to these new little babies that will hopefully grow out to be beautiful ladies :). I'm actually half hoping for a male, because i really liked this blue cheese and if i can get any seeds out of her i'd be happy :). I plan on just topping all of them multiple times to try and recreated my last grow, that got busted by dumb ass piggies that wouldn't listen.

Soil & Nutes (Cheap Ass ) -

Vigoro Potting soil. I read bad reviews about this stuff after buying it, i ended up just using it anyway... Hope for the best :).
Vegging Nutes: Miracle Gro All Purpose Plant food 12-4-8
Flowering Nutes: Miracle Gro Bloom Booster 15-30-15
Both of these nutes are like 2-3 years old. I am the cheapest grower you'll find lol.
3 gal pots

Lights (Have had them since i started growing about 3 years ago) -

12 27w 5000k CFLs for vegging, will add more of those if i let them get too big during veg :).

20 or more mix of 27w 5000k and 23w 2700k CFLs for flowering

I gotta say.... First time without miracle gro soil, and I'm regretting not buying it again. Looking at my old plants that i always grew in miracle gro, they grew so much faster compared to how fast these ones are growing :(.

Vigoro Potting soil = Nono

Reading the back of the bag, it says that if the plants show slowed growth and lighter shade of green then I should start feeding them, does that sound about right? I barely ever fed my last plants that were in miracle gro because it always seemed like they didn't need it.

I think I'll just let them starve for 1 more week and start with a 1/4 strength of vegging nutes on day 14

:(.............. These gnats seem to be getting out of control, there's more and more of them each day. I've watered with mosquito dunk water 2 times so far, and appears to be doing diddly squat. What are some other options? Fly traps are obvious but will that even get rid of them?

Maybe i should crush the remaining mosquito dunks up and sprinkle them on the surface of the soil in each pot? Idk..... I just fucking hate bugs in my grow room it pisses me off. I shoulda stuck to MG :(

A layer of perlite on the surface of the soil would work? I dunno, I'm just reading so many things I don't know which one to try

Or should i resort to hydrogen peroxide

I would love to get new soil and get them in it asap, but considering i started them in 3 gallon pots and only 7 days old.... How would i even? Just dig them up and stick them in new soil? I've done it before a long time ago and ended up ripping roots up but it survived, But it was much bigger then these, and healthier.

Well after lots of reading I decided I'm going to crush up a few mosquito dunks and sprinkle over the soil, along with still watering with the mosquito dunk water every once in a while, letting the soil get very dry.

I wouldn't repot now man, maybe look into azamax a soil drench wih that stuff usually takes care of my bug problems, and letting your soil dry out more inbetween waterings should help also, gl

i would vacuum the adults up.
then get yellow paper board slathered up with corn syrup.
then set the yellow slathered card stock on top of soil to catch adults.
attracted to yellow and the corn syrup will stick it to them.
you have to break the cycle somehow and just killing their larvae is doing just that.
they will lay more eggs if you don't trap the adults.

I cooked up some water, sugar and maple syrup together and soaked 7 pieces of paper from a paper grocery bag in em, now they super sticky. Where do i put them? Just on top of the soil ooorrrr on the wall? or hanging down like the lights?

I put 1 in each of the pots, and surrounded them... hopefully it works. The odd thing is.... I didn't see a single gnat while i was putting them in there.

Obviously tell me if the syrup and sugar will murder my plants, and i'll get them out. Doesn't seem like they would harm them, but i don't know lol

I probably went overboard with em lol - I went ahead and took the ones out of the soil, I figured if there are any left, they'll smell my tasty snack i made for them and go out to eat

I did actually, but they're not all too intrigued by them. I put in a cup of vinegar and dish soap in there with em aswell.

Quick question, can vinegar fumes hurt plants?

I sure hope not... less then 30 minutes in there and the cup has captured 3 little buggers

from what i have read the paper has to be yellow.
that color attracts them. like all the yellow stickies you buy for flies and what now.

Well today is day 10, as you can probably tell they haven't grown much at all, kandy 1 is suffering from something but I just don't know what. Blue cheese seems to be reaching for the sky for some reason, and yeah just overall they are growing really slowly.... By now on my last grows they already had there set of true leaves workin on the next :(. If they just shrivel up and die now, I'll be sad :(. But at least I'll be able to get some proper soil and start over, with random bag seeds.

That's what you get when you buy the cheap soil . Miracle gro seems to be the soil for me

Don't give up on them yet, just make sure your letting your soil dry out pretty well inbetween waterings and lettin those roots breath n do their thing...miracle grow is pretty good soil I liked to add some extra perlite for better airation when I used it
