hi guys, i have just germinated my seeds and put them in to the soil and set up the lights. how long per day should i leave the light on until there is a shoot showing. is the light supposed to be on 24hrs until i can see the plant or does the seed still need to be in the dark part of the day. thanks

24 hrs will work, 18/6 will work. They start using light when they have leaves so you could wait until they break the surface though

thanks mate, is the seed actually taking in the light now under the soil. sorry if that sounds stupid, but i germinated them in paper towels and that blew my mind. how come they sat in my draw for ages, then 12 hours in a damp p t and they r sprouting.

#1 no, there is no light penetrating the soil so they can't use it...

#2 thats nature man... shits fucking cool

Well if the seeds all sprouted and you planted them properly and all like 2 - 5 days... Chillll

don't they make you kids grow beans in elementary school anymore?

the seed does not need light until it has leavesa, true but it does need heat and most folks leave a light on it for heat, plus the light will then be there when it does finally pop out of the soil :)
