Best Base Strains for Breeding

If all marijuana strains on earth were to suddenly vanish except for three, which three strains would you want to have left for breeding purposes? The goal would be to possess the fundamental genetics needed to produce the greatest variety of new, high potency, high yielding hybrids.

Northern Lights, Haze, ... Afgani?

Makes sense. Haze for sativa influence and Afghani for some nice indica potency. World of seeds has a nice looking landrace Afghan Kush.

With the northern lights, are you thinking that keeps them short and disease resistant in a variety of growing conditions?

I've read that Northern Lights is used to increase yield, shorten flowering time and for stability. I'm not a breeder and I don't read about breeding often, just making some guesses.

My 3 nominations would be Skunk#1, Northern Lights #5, and Haze.

If I had to throw in a 4th it would be Big Bud. Just because it can be crossed to GREATLY increase yields. But that's just my 2 cents :-)

"Skunk#1"

Good call, I drop Afgani and pick up Skunk #1.

Now holding: NL#5, Haze, Skunk #1, pretty much the same as xxplosive but in a different order.

What about Thai for some serious sativa influence? Or hash plant for resin production?

A sativa, an indica, and a hemp plant. I'd look for the greatest genetic diversity in the plants. I 'd choose the hemp, because there's a lot of uses for it.

Hello fellow growers..

I have a perpetual grow with all white berry (Paradise seed bank), this strain is a cross of white widow and blueberry. I've recently added a clone of super shit (BC Seeds) which is a cross of kush and something they don't tell you.. My reason for adding the super shit was for sexing purposes, and now that I know it's a male I wish to cross breed the 2 strains for my own hybrid.. The only problem is ive never crossed strains before so any advice would be a great help!

By the way.. If I were to cross 3 strains there they are; White widow x Blueberry x Kush

Thanks everyone

northern lights and big bud both are afghani's.

northern lights #5 (afghani X thia) X landrace afghan kush sounds pretty damn solid.

afghani strains should def make the list

When you mate em, try to keep the male seperated with a cloth so it doesn't polinate your entire crop.. If you're careful you can polinate a single branch as long as you use something to cover the rest of the plant to keep it safe from the polen.

and make sure you let it grow to a very dark amber..

what I do is polinate the bottom couple branches and when I want to harvest I cut above those few branches and let the lower portion grow and grow until all the hairs are a very dark brown..

its pretty easy to do but its pretty easy to polinate the entire crop so be careful my friend..

~cheers
