Best nutrients to use?

We are trying to decide what the best nutrients at a reasonable cost. We are planting in Fox Farm soil mixture and were planning on using the FoxFarm feeding schedule however some people have told us that we can use general hydrophonics and achieve the same results with much less cost. Your input would be greatly appreciated.

My first grow, I uesd the General Hydroponics nutes. I have since switched to DNF (Dutch Nutrient Formula). What an amazing difference it made. :peace:

the best plant i ever grew was a 5 foot monster bud from top to bottom, i used dead fish and horse manuer no lie. it works great also i used fox farm bloom once it started flowering , i harvested 2 ounces , dig a hole put 3--6 dead fish in it then add your soil and plant once the roots his the fish it will give them a great amout of nuts and your plant will shoot up in just a few days, the good thing is you cant over nut your plant this way so its a pretty good idea use mix some horse manuer in with your soil not by hand ofc, but horse manuer isn't a must so its fine if you cant find any

This is what I use:

2 Cu. Ft. Flower and Vegetable Planting Mix

Add coarse perlite at a ratio of about 1:4.

For veg, ColorStar 19-13-6:

A little bit goes a long way! Use 1/4 tsp every other watering and back off once leaves start turning deeper green. When new growth is looking lighter green than the rest, another 1/4 tsp can be used.

For bloom, NutriStar for Tropicals 5-30-5:

Feed according to the amounts printed but every 7 days instead of 14.

For each food type you need to crush it and dissolve in hot water and stir. Read pH and add the appropriate amount of Garden Lime to the water each time to raise it:

Espoma Natural Gardening Solutions

You will probably need to do this with the bloom food, but not the veg. Bloom food is much more acidic and you'll be using more. Anyway, after pH reads about 6.5, let it cool to under 100 degrees and pour it in! Your plants will love this stuff.

The 2 lb tubs of food can be found for $9 each and a 5 lb bag of lime for $4. All of this works great, is cheap and will last you a very long time!

I'm convinced most of the foods you see pushed in here is just expensive, trendy stuff.

hmm... interesting. so if it was a choice between dutch nutrient formula or advanced nutrients which would it be? is there a feeding schedule for DNF? i myself use AN but with no schedule i just use every other day. I'd like to get a schedule and stick to it to see does it make a difference.

Do you AN guys out there recommend the 1:1:1 or the 3:2:1 style. also any realistic recommendations on other supplements?

I really dont want to be putting 10million different things in, but if there are basic sups for veg or flower or for pests or whatnot, I would really like to know.

stoverdro - i think advanced nutrients is best if u look at price or not

stash112 - depends on how ur growing some kinds of hydro feed all teh time most soil growing feeds every couple days or less

spork - i dunno what ur aksin r u talking bout ANs 3 part nutes? i either follow the Lucas Formula with them or just use em like teh bottle says 2
