Best seed germination and seedling propagation techniques

I was wondering on personal methods of popping seeds and planting the germinated sprouts.

I have been doing in a wet wash cloth until the radical is 1 inch and then planting in seed starter soil about half an inch deep. Once the seedling has stron enough established root system I pull it from the soil and then replaced its stem into a cut "root riot" cube (I do this to get the height that I am aiming for, whenever I plant germinated seeds right in the cubes they either come up stretchy or done come up because of how deep they are buries, most likely from the damage experienced when forcing the seed into such a small crevice). That cube then goes into a rockwool cube and then my hydro life begins.

I am asking because this is a tedious process, but my best results as far as popped seeds/healthy survivors; I just spent a pretty penny on some seeds and am nervous about potential lost investment.

Thanks!

I plant in moist soil a half inch deep in a 2" pot similar to the size of a party cup. I cover it with either plastic wrap or a clear plastic cup upside down on top of it. I put it in with a 26w cfl and it stays around 78 degrees. 100% success rate. I see no reason to pre germinate seeds

the best thing so far for me

16 different plants 4 differnet methods

the jiffy plug with 78 - 84 degree water soaked for 15 mins then 3 squeezes to remove some of the water poke a hole in the top about 1/4 inch down ............but the seed in the plug bulb end down pointy end up

put the plug in the middle of the planter water the soil around the plug walk away for 4 days come back to a 2 to 3 inch spourt

this is the best method i have found and seen (infact i offen have to support the plant do to it being so tall and top heavy (like 4/5 days with a bambo stick to keep it steady untill the stem thickens up )

I have had really good luck planting the seed directly, like what tusseltussel described.

Next time, I'm going to try direct planting into rapid rooters and see how that works. I've been following Farmer John 420 on his current round of seeds, and he plants the seed directly into an upside down rapid rooter, his success rate was almost 100%...I think one seed didn't come up.

This time around i used a Jiffy seed starter greenhouse, with a heating mat set on medium underneath. Soaked the seed's in a glass jar overnight at room temp. then relocated to the peat cup's. 9/10 sprouted not bad as the one that didn't sprout looked iffy anyhow ;-)
